New York Yankees Rumors: Mark Teixeira To DL, Done For Season?

New York Yankees rumors confirm that Mark Teixeira is heading to the disabled list. These Yankees rumors put the team in a tough position as the 2015 MLB regular season comes to a close, with his season possibly coming to an early finish. A report from the team states that the move is retroactive to August 27 and that right-handed pitcher Nick Rumbelow has been recalled to replace him on the roster.

Teixeira has been hobbled for a while by a bone bruise to his shin that hasn’t been healing. Now the All-Star first baseman will get time to heal, with the hope that he can return in time for the postseason. Teixeira had found his power stroke again this season, posting 31 home runs, 79 RBIs, and a .906 OPS through 111 games. That’s production the team might need to present a real postseason threat.

There are a number of New York Yankees rumors about which player will see a lot of time at first base in the short-term. Greg Bird should continue to see some time there, but he will be platooned with one of Alex Rodriguez, Chase Headley, Brendan Ryan, or Dustin Ackley. It’s possible that several players could be used by manager Joe Girardi in an effort to simply play match-ups for the rest of September. Several of those players may struggle to provide the offense the team losing with Teixeira on the DL.

In the updated wild card standings, the Yankees hold the first spot, with a four-game lead over the Texas Rangers. The team is also 5 1/2 games ahead of the Minnesota Twins in that race. With just 30 games left in the regular season, the Yankees are also 1 1/12 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the American League East. With seven games left against the Blue Jays this season, anything could happen in the East and the wild card race.

Despite residing in second place, Yankees fans have to be pleased with how well the team has performed in a season where it wasn’t expected to contend. The resurgence of Mark Teixeira, the return of Alex Rodriguez, and getting a lot of innings from Masahiro Tanaka have all helped the team contend for another division title. Though these New York Yankees rumors about Teixeira and the possibility he won’t be back for the postseason are looming, anything can happen once the 2015 MLB Playoffs begin.
