‘Scream’ Season 2: Audrey’s Secret, Whether Piper Will Return, And More

Well, it’s a good thing that MTV’s Scream TV series had already been renewed for a second season when the Season 1 finale aired, because despite revealing the identity of the killer, it still left several questions unanswered and introduced an accomplice.

With the killer’s identity still unknown – though many were quick to point fingers – when the Scream Season 1 finale began, and with it being the finale, anyone was fair game to die or be the one behind the mask. And what better place to stage a couple of possible deaths than at Brooke’s party? Throughout the episode, the pieces began to come together, so that by the time the killer was revealed, it wasn’t too surprising (and you may have even figured it out before “Revelations”). A dead body found in the bathroom quickly cleared the teenagers from Brooke’s place, leaving Audrey alone to be confronted by the killer (but left alive, hinting that there was something more going on there) outside, as well as Brooke to think she was safe because she locked Seth out of the house.

However, it was revealed that Piper, whom Emma had actually directed to Brooke’s house, making it all the easier for her, was the one behind the mask, which also suggested that she couldn’t be working alone since Will had been with her when she was attacked. Audrey showed up in time to shoot Piper during her and Emma’s fight, which ended with, of course, one last “they always come back” move. But that wasn’t all. The final moments of the finale showed that Audrey was likely Piper’s accomplice.

TVLine spoke to executive producer Jill Blotevogel about the Scream Season 1 finale, and the EP revealed that they liked having Audrey be involved because “she felt like the very surprising element.”

“Audrey is someone that I feel like the audience relates to and empathizes with, so letting her be the connective tissue between Season 1 and Season 2 is a great way to let the audience get pulled back in. they want to believe in her. They want to believe that she’s good, but there’s also a part of them that wants to think she got some justice, too.”

With Piper revealed to be the killer and the events at the dock, does that mean Audrey becomes the villain? According to Blotevogel, she’s “a wild card,” as so far, all that has been revealed is that she is connected to Piper in some way. The audience knows that, but her friends do not, and it has not yet been revealed is she has killed anyone or if that was all Piper.

Speaking of Piper, it is possible that Scream Season 2 could see her again, in flashbacks, according to the EP, especially if it involves offering a “behind-the-scenes” type of look at how she did what she did, how she learned what she did and what she had “previously recorded, in terms of what she was planning to do.” After all, as she had told Emma, she had a plan to tell the police that involved Seth being labeled the killer, Emma and Maggie dead, and her the survivor to tell the story.

Amelia Rose Blaire told TVLine that she would like to come back to explore more about Piper.

“Throughout the whole season, I was essentially wearing a mask. She has these two radically different sides of her personality. I’d love to get to pay more of the darker side with it.”

Other possible Scream Season 2 returns include Seth Branson, though he would no longer be a teacher, to explore the aftermath for him and Brooke and to delve into his character a bit more, which is “why Branson survived the finale,” according to the EP, and Emma’s father.

“We’d like to see Kevin Duval [Tom Everett Scott] come back and be part of season 2,” Blotevogel told Entertainment Weekly and refused to comment about any connection he may have had to the murders in the past.

MTV’s Scream will be back for a second season.
