Daniel Radcliffe Stars In Controversial Biopic Of ‘Grand Theft Auto’ Inventor

Daniel Radcliffe, best known for the character Harry Potter, will star in an upcoming BBC Two film, The Gamechangers.

The Gamechangers follows the story of Sam Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar Games and creator of the wildly successful and controversial Grand Theft Auto (GTA) video game series. Daniel Radcliffe is set to play Sam Houser.

Daniel Radcliffe was born July 23, 1989, and is best known for playing the title character in the Harry Potter film series. Radcliffe was cast for the first film at age 11 and remained until the release of the last and final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2.

As reported by Rolling Stone, Daniel Radcliffe will be joined by Bill Paxton in The Gamechangers. Paxton portrays American lawyer Jack Thompson who campaigned against the game for its sex, violence, and overall negative influence on young adults.

The film is getting some other unwanted attention, though. The parent company of Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the BBC.

The company recently issued a statement to IGN, saying, “It is our obligation to protect our intellectual property and unfortunately in this case litigation was necessary”

Later, the BBC responded with its own statement.

“This drama is for an adult audience and has not been authorised by the producers of Grand Theft Auto. Rather, it is based on court documents and interviews with many of those involved in the real events behind this compelling story.”

Although the biopic still hasn’t been authorized by Take-Two, the lawsuit has yet to stop the biopic from being aired. Radcliffe doesn’t seem phased by the controversy.

The Gamechangers was directed by Owen Harris, who is also known for other British shows like Misfits and Black Mirror. James Woods wrote the script and is based on the book Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto by David Kushner.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Daniel Radcliffe will be co-starring in the upcoming Victor Frankenstein film.

Radcliffe will play Igor, Dr. Frankenstein’s famous assistant. The movie will also star James McAvoy as the infamous doctor desperately seeking the secret to immortality. Look for this movie with Daniel Radcliffe in U.S. cinemas sometime around November 25.

As reported by the Guardian, Daniel Radcliffe has several other projects in the works. He will be appearing in Now, You See Me: the Second Act, Swiss Army Man, and Imperium. You will also find Radcliffe in the upcoming political comedy Young Americans.

Despite the lawsuit and GTA’s contentious past, the The Gamechangers, starring Daniel Radcliffe, will air on BBC Two September 15.
