Stop What You’re Doing And Watch This Boba Fett Fan Trailer Right Now

Star Wars fans may be eagerly awaiting the release of The Force Awakens, but a 90-second-long fan film has given them a fleeting glimpse of what a Boba Fett spin-off might look like.

The clip is the work of Eric Demeusy, and it looks nothing short of amazing. Using movie-grade special effects, Demeusy has been able to depict Fett’s escape from the terrifying maw of the Sarlacc 30 years after he first fell into it during Return of the Jedi. Fett looks none the worse for wear in the fan film (likely the result of his Mandalorian armor), yet the depictions of Tatooine and the bounty hunter’s iconic ship, Slave One, are spot on.

Demeusy is no novice in the field of special effects, having previously worked on Pacific Rim and the iconic opening to Game of Thrones, as the Verge points out. While many other fan films are forced to reuse stock footage from the series they are emulating (due to a lack of an effects budget or know-how), Demeusy’s work obviously benefits greatly from his past resume and expertise. Titled Star Wars: New Republic Anthology, the clip is reportedly set three decades after the original trilogy, right around the time period of The Force Awakens.

When Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm was first announced, fans rejoiced at the news that spin-off films would be produced alongside the core entries in the new Star Wars trilogy. At the time, Boba Fett was reportedly set to lead one of the first films to be produced, but intervening events have put the future of the project on hold, as Yahoo News points out. Director Josh Trank left the Boba Fett spin-off earlier in the year, and while it was originally rumored to premiere in 2018, it is now thought the film could be released as late as 2020. While it has been suggested that any film regarding Boba Fett could be structured as an origin story, the character’s previous appearances in Attack of the Clones and The Clone Wars likely prevent that from being the true plot of the film.

Star Wars fans may have to wait some time to see a Boba Fett spin-off hit the screen, but after this week, there are more than a few who believe that Eric Demeusy is the man for the job.
