Morrissey Slams Australia’s Plan To Slaughter Two Million Cats As Pure ‘Idiocy’: They’re ‘Smaller Versions Of Cecil The Lion’

Verbally vitriolic vocalist Morrissey has slammed Australia’s plans to cull two million cats as pure “idiocy” and claims that, in his opinion, the unsuspecting felines are just smaller versions of Cecil the Lion.

The vegetable eating Morrissey has long been a fierce proponent of animal rights. The sullen songbird is always going to lock horns with the likes of Australia’s environment minister, Greg Hunt, who has defended his country’s proposed “cat genocide” by likening the feral felines earmarked for the chopping board to a “tsunami of violence and death,” responsible for the deaths of huge swathes of Australia’s native wildlife.

Feral cats and other “pests” introduced to Australia are widely held accountable for the country’s terrible mammal extinction record, which is the worst in the world. The prowling pussycats are said to be responsible for Bandicoots and Potoroos being wiped out in large areas of the country.

To resolve the problem, Hunt plans to stop the killing with more killing. A spokesperson for Hunt claims that by butchering two million of the cats down under by 2021, Australia will remove the biggest threat to 120 of their own endangered species.

“With around 20m feral cats in Australia and with each feral cat estimated to kill at least five native animals a day, they pose an enormous threat to our native species.

“Any culling of feral cats should be humane and must not subject feral cats to unacceptable suffering.

“The government has invested $4.1m in developing humane, target-specific feral cat bait called Curiosity. The toxin in Curiosity works in a way that is similar to the cat falling into a deep sleep and not waking up.”

Morrissey of course is having none of it, and the outraged catman snarled in a statement issued to the British music press that the felines will be killed in a “ferocious manner.”

“We all know that the idiots rule the earth, but this is taking idiocy just too far.

“The cats, who keep the rodent population under control, will be killed in a ferocious manner, using Compound 10/80, which is a gut-wrenching poison of the most unimaginable and lengthy horror.

“The people of Australia would never agree to this – but of course they will not be consulted, because the Australian government as ruled by Tony Abbott is essentially a committee of sheep-farmers who have zero concerns about animal welfare or animal respect.

“The cats are, in fact, 2m smaller versions of Cecil the lion.”

Morrissey is not the only famous cat lover to lose his rag over Australia’s proposed cull. The Guardian reports that Bridgette Bardot has also written an open letter to Greg Hunt, calling his proposals an “animal genocide which is inhumane and ridiculous.” Bardot also suggested that the government should look instead at the sterilisation of cats instead.

“This animal genocide is inhumane and ridiculous. In addition to being cruel, killing these cats is absolutely useless since the rest of them will keep breeding.

“Your country is sullied by the blood of millions of innocent animals so please, don’t add cats to this morbid record.”

Bardot and Morrissey’s protests have been backed by PETA Australia, which have labelled the planned cull cruel and unlikely to succeed.
