The corpse of a tiny mysterious creature has been found on the banks of the Kovashi River in western Russia. Local residents and expert biologists have been unable to identify the creature.
Reports in the local media that scientists are baffled by the discovery have sparked rumors that the creature could be an alien or extraterrestrial being.
The video below — excerpted from a Russian TV news broadcast — shows the strange creature that Tamara — a local resident — and her friend, found on Sunday near the banks of the Kovashi River in Sosnovy Bor, a town near Leningrad.
When Tamara showed the tiny corpse to her friends, some thought it was a mutant chicken embryo. But Tamara, who named the creature Kesha, disagreed.
She showed the creature to a biologist, who was unable to identify it as a fish or bird.
“It seems that this body is neither fish nor fowl — this creature has a mysterious skull, no neck and wings.”
Another biologist, Yegor Zadereev, told a reporter on Russian TV that he could not identify the creature, either. An expert from the Institute of Biophysics in Krasnoyarsk also examined the animal and admitted that he was stumped.
The experts agreed that the creature should be sent to Moscow for further scientific study, including DNA tests.
“Extensive studies are needed to determine what kind of creature or organism it is.”
But some believe that the creature is likely an alien that died in a UFO crash.
According to Scott Waring, editor of UFO Sightings Daily, the creature is a “tiny alien body.”
“A tiny alien body was found near a river in Russia and has no resemblance to any animal known. Russian scientists are confused over what it could be and said they need to wait for the results of the tests.”
The alien was probably conducting a surveillance flight over the nuclear power plant, UFO enthusiasts speculated.
But some local residents have expressed suspicion that the creature could be a product of teratogenic mutation due to nuclear contamination from the nearby Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant.
Local residents expressed fears that if the creature is sent to Moscow, the authorities could try to cover up evidence that the creature is a mutant caused by accidents at the nuclear plant.
Sosnovy Bor was built in 1958 by the Soviet authorities to provide housing for nuclear power plant workers. The plant has a long history of fire accidents and spills.
Several workers have died at the plant due to accidents, and Sosnovy Bor residents have lived in fear of the health effects of the frequent accidents and resulting contamination.
