Millvena Dean, Last Titanic Survivor Gets Help from Titanic Stars

Millvena Dean, the last survivor of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, can rest easy knowing that her living expenses will be covered for her remaining days. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, stars of the movie ‘Titanic’ have pledged to give support to the fund set up to subsidize Millvena Dean’s nursing home fees.

Millvena Dean was just 2 months old when she was aboard the doomed ocean liner, Titanic, that sank after hitting an ice berg off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, Canada, on April 14, 1912. The ship was on it’s way from England to New York on it’s maiden transatlantic voyage at the time. Dean survived after being rescued from the icy waters.

She has been living in a nursing home in Southampton, England after breaking her hip about 3 years ago and has since been struggling to keep up with paying her living expenses. She has had to resort to selling several of her Titanic mementos to raise money to make ends meet recently.

But DiCaprio and Winslet said in a statement recently that they hoped Dean could rest easier knowing that her future was secure. The Millvina Fund was launched Monday in Belfast, Northern Ireland in her honor.
