September 4 has been marked on most Star Wars fan calendars as “Force Friday.” It will be our first real look at some of the Star Wars merchandise that will be available for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Naturally, major retailers are looking to cash in on the biggest movie event to occur this year. Target’s “Share the Force” campaign aims to strike a chord with any person that was born after 1976.
From the opening scene of the little boy getting ready for the crawl, the “Share the Force” advertisement brings together children and grown ups alike that span generations. As the iconic Star Wars (Force) theme plays, we see home movies of fans opening gifts and doing their best Chewy imitation. One particular part that can’t help but bring a smile to anyone’s face is a little girl giving her take on Darth Vader.
“Don’t talk back to Darth Vader. He’ll get yah!”
In the fast-paced society we live in, we are taught to get all of our information in small chunks. Most commercials do not last longer than 15 or 30 seconds. When trying to watch a video on YouTube, we just can’t wait for the “skip” button to appear. However, every once in a great while, a store will “catch lightning in a bottle.” Target’s “Share the Force” does just that.
Fans have gone nuts over the video. Many were quick to leave comments on which part was their favorite.

“The first ad I have NEVER skipped. Watched it until the very end. I even searched for it to watch it again lol. True first for me on the internet.” – ILikePurple
The commercial has almost 350,000 views up to this point. Target has started a website where fans young and old alike can go and leave their favorite Star Wars memory. The memories are available for all fans to read and enjoy. As many memories as you want may be added.
Now that you have seen the commercial, what do you think? Is Target’s “Share the Force” commercial the greatest commercial of all time? If not, what is your favorite? What are some of you favorite Star Wars memories? We would love to hear them.
