Portia de Rossi, Ellen DeGeneres, Other Celebs Tweet Farewells To Dr. Wayne Dyer
Dr. Wayne Dyer has been celebrated for a life well lived following his untimely passing at the age of 75 on Saturday. While the messages he shared with the world resonated with many, no bond seemed closer than that he shared with Portia de Rossi and her wife Ellen DeGeneres. Dyer officiated the couple’s 2008 wedding, and de Rossi, DeGeneres, and Dyer developed a friendship that would last until his passing on August 29. To honor him, the couple shared a photo of him at their nuptials that had not been previously shared publicly.

According to Dyer’s website, the self-help guru previously battled leukemia. However, a post on his Facebook page states that no trace of cancer was found in his body at the time of his passing. Dr. Dyer ultimately died from a heart attack.
De Rossi’s relationship with Dyer went beyond simply his officiation of her nuptials. The two worked together on the movie The Shift. According to the film’s website, the film was meant to show people how to find their way to their spiritual purposes.
Dyer said of the adversity he has faced, which included a heart attack, a divorce, and leukemia, “Adversities are things to be grateful for; that’s what I’ve learned. If you shield the mountain from the wind storms, you never see the beauty of the carvings. I have always loved that quote.”
The magazine Mind Body Spirit regularly listed Dyer as one of the top ten most spiritually influential people in the world. Last year, Dyer ranked eighth. It was a spiritual approach that Dyer appeared to adopt when it came to fighting his cancer; according to NBC News, he said he had fought his leukemia with positive thinking, daily exercise, and something he termed “psychic surgery.”
There were those, including de Rossi and DeGeneres, who thought quite highly of Dyer. Among the mourners in the wake of Dyer’s death was talk show legend Oprah Winfrey, who had spoken with Dyer on numerous occasions.

There were many who sympathized with de Rossi about her grief about Dyer. Dyer was professed to be the “father of motivation” largely due to his incredible story of a life spent in orphanages and foster care to growing into the critically praised writer and self-help spiritual guru he was. Fans were on side with de Rossi when it came to her sorrow.

Not only has de Rossi gained headlines for her connection to Dr. Wayne Dyer, she is also gaining notoriety for her work on the hit series Scandal, where she plays Elizabeth North. In addition, de Rossi has also garnered accolades for her work as an advocate for those with eating disorders; de Rossi struggled with anorexia nervosa and bulimia in the past. She and DeGeneres have also been hailed for their unending work to prevent animal abuse and have been vegan since 2008.
However, it is de Rossi and her farewell tweet to Dyer that has garnered her recent attention. It would seem that de Rossi, DeGeneres, and others have seen a great void with the passing of Dyer.
