Kanye West Goes Off Script During VMAs Speech, Taylor Swift’s People Panic

When Kanye West took to the stage at the VMAs to accept his Video Vanguard award, many took his speech as a nonsensical rant. For Taylor Swift’s people, West was going rogue once again.

According to Radar Online, the only way Taylor Swift would honor West with a Video Vanguard is if he stuck to specific talking points. One of them would be to apologize to Taylor Swift for the 2009 VMA incident, in which he interrupted her speech to say that Beyonce had the best video of all time.

Instead of apologizing, Kanye made it a point to say that even though he might not say the right things at the right time, he fights for artists who he believes in. This insinuates that Taylor Swift wasn’t one of those artists back in 2009.

He started off well, which at first started out like the beginnings of an apology to Swift. “I often think back to the first day I met you also. You know I think about when I’m in the grocery store with my daughter and I have a really great conversation about fresh juice… and at the end they say, ‘Oh, you’re not that bad after all!’ And like I think about it sometimes. … It crosses my mind a little bit like when I go to a baseball game and 60,000 people boo me. Crosses my mind a little bit.”

West continued, “If I had a daughter at that time would I have went on stage and grabbed the mic from someone else’s? You know, this arena tomorrow it’s gonna be a completely different setup. Some concert, something like that. The stage will be gone. After that night, the stage was gone, but the effect that it had on people remained.”

Then this is where we’re willing to bet Kanye went off the cuff. “The problem was the contradiction. The contradiction is I do fight for artists, but in that fight I somehow was disrespectful to artists. I didn’t know how to say the right thing, the perfect thing.”

At one point West said, “I just wanted people to like me more. “But f–k that, bro! 2015! I will die for the art! For what I believe in. And the art ain’t always gonna be polite! Ya’ll might be thinking right now, ‘Did he smoke something before he came out here?’ The answer is yes, I rolled up a little something. I knocked the edge off!”

According to Radar Online, Taylor’s people got a tad nervous somewhere in the middle of West’s speech. According to a source close to the situation, “She said she went into tunnel vision when he started going off script and that she tried to put distance between her and Kim. Her publicist had them kill planned shots to her once he went off course.”

The source continued, “(Swift) said ‘it could have be worse’ but luckily it wasn’t about her even though he had agreed to apologize but didn’t.”
