Bobby Brown has debuted his new single, “Don’t Let Me Die,” as a tribute to his ex-wife, Whitney Houston, who passed away on February 11, 2012.

Brown’s single, which he performed on Jay Leno’s show, includes the lyrics:

“I guess I messed up pretty bad … I didn’t know who you were … I didn’t know what we had. Now I’m stuck living in the past … trying to get the pieces back … but I guess now you’re gone.”

Bobby Brown has only opened up a couple of times about his late ex-wife, who died of an accidental drug overdose in a Hollywood hotel.

MTV reports that the new single by Brown portrays his feelings since Houston’s death, singing about things that went wrong in their relationship, and reminiscing that:

“I didn’t realize that every breath I took was from you…You were my air.”

TMZ reports that Bobby Brown’s new song will be featured on the upcoming album, The Masterpiece, which is set to debut on June 5th. This will be his first album since Forever, which debuted in 1997.

According to The Washington Post, Brown reportedly stated that the new album is:

“It’s what I’ve been through throughout my life, and just trying to heal myself through my music.”

Th 43-year old singer believes that this new album is his best so far. He also says:

“But I’m going to do better in the near future. I just want to get back to what I do, which is entertainment, and this is the start to me getting back to what I want to do.”

Bobby Brown attributed his long absence in music production as taking time to figure himself out, and to straighten himself out. He stated that:

“When you’re working on yourself, you have to really concentrate on working on yourself and it takes a back seat to what you want to do and what I’m gonna do”
