Ian Somerhalder Quitting ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Like Nina Dobrev?

The Vampire Diaries fans are freaking out over rumors that Ian Somerhalder may be quitting the hit CW show after Season 7, much like his ex-girlfriend, Nina Dobrev, did last season.

Celeb Dirty Laundry reports that Ian Somerhalder is allegedly considering leaving the show that made him famous, and it could be because of his wife, Nikki Reed, wanting to end Ian’s constant connection to Nina Dobrev.

“It wouldn’t be surprise if Somerhalder’s wife, Nikki Reed, was pushing the TVD star to exit the CW show and end the non-stop Dobrev association. It’s doubtful any move Ian makes will forever end the Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Nikki Reed love triangle.”

After 7 long seasons as hunky vampire Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries, is Ian Somerhalder really considering leaving the series? If so, it could sink the entire series, as it would be hard to continue on with two of the three main characters abandoning ship.

While the rest of the characters such as Stefan, Caroline, Bonnie, Matt, Alaric, and others are totally beloved in the TVD universe, it seems unlikely they would be enough to hold viewership if Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder were both gone.

On the other hand, if the character of Damon Salvatore were to be killed off, it might be enough of an incentive for Nina Dobrev to return to the series, since she would no longer have to work with Ian Somerhalder.

Jobs & Hire reports that Ian has been dropping hints on his social media pages, namely Twitter and Instagram, about possibly leaving The Vampire Diaries, and fans are worried that yet another beloved character will bite the dust for good.

“Most of his posts related to TVD suggested that he is now ready to let go of the character he portrayed for almost seven years.”

Recently, Somerhalder has posted a photo of his eye looking through an item and titled the post “looking in to the future.” Could this mean he’s ready to move on from TVD and into a more lucrative acting career, possibly in movies?

Another post was a throwback to a time when The Vampire Diaries was the No. 1 show on television, beating out Lost, a show in which Ian used to appear on, and Grey’s Anatomy. Somerhalder captioned the snap “The good old days.” Is he missing the ratings of old?

No matter what Ian Somerhalder decides to do about The Vampire Diaries, his fans will likely follow him. What do you think about his possible TVD exit?
