Wes Craven’s TV Series At UCP Still Moving Forward

Following the sad death of horror director and writer Wes Craven, NBCUniversal’s Universal Cable Productions has announced their plans to move forward with three of Craven’s TV series that were in development, Deadline has confirmed.

“Wes Craven was a master artist, a gentleman and it was our pleasure to work with him,” UCP said in a statement. “It is our intention to bring to life all the projects Wes developed at Universal Cable Productions. Thankfully these projects have benefitted greatly from his development and guidance since their inception. They will continue in his honor and spirit.”

Craven, who died of brain cancer on Sunday, had inked a deal with UCP four months prior to his death. One of the 76-year-old’s projects included an adaptation of author Daryl Gregory’s book We Are All Completely Fine, set to air on Syfy. The series revolves around Dr. Jan Sayer, a psychologist who attempts to help survivors of a support group that have all suffered through horrific life events. But as Sayer and the patients try to deal with their fears head on, they learn that sometimes facing the past can be fatal. Craven was attached to write the script and direct the pilot.

The Nightmare On Elm Street director was also working on an adaptation of The People Under The Stairs. Set for Syfy, the project has been described as Downton Abbey meets The Amityville Horror. Craven’s third project is a futuristic pilot, entitled Disciples, which is based on Steve Niles’ upcoming graphic novel.

Craven also served as an executive producer on MTV’s new series that is based on his hit Scream franchise. The series was just renewed for a second season. Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, and Amadeus Serafini star.

“We are honored to have worked with him and proud to carry on his legacy with Scream,” the network said today.

Fortunately for horror fans, Craven’s manager will continue to serve as an executive producer on all of the shows. Craven’s death was announced by his family in a statement.

“It is with deep sadness we inform you that Wes Craven passed away at 1PM on Sunday, August 30 after battling brain cancer. He was 76 years old.”

Following the announcement of his death, Craven’s Hollywood peers and fans all took to social media to pass along their condolences and memories of the man who created one of the scariest villains in the world of horror, Freddy Krueger.
