Jessa Duggar’s Father-In-Law, Michael Seewald, More Upset About Josh Duggar Cheating On Anna Than Jessa’s Molestation

Jessa Duggar’s father-in-law, Michael Seewald, is sharing his thoughts about the Josh Duggar cheating scandal, and he has some pretty scathing words for the former 19 Kids and Counting star. However, Seewald previously defended Josh after he confessed to sexually molesting Jessa and three of her sisters, so apparently he thinks adultery looks worse than child molestation on a rap sheet of sins.

Ben Seewald’s dad has his own blog, and he occasionally uses it to discuss the Duggar family. Michael Seewald made headlines in 2014 when he dubbed critics of Jessa Duggar “Hitler’s Doppelgangers” and “Femi-Nazis.” According to E! News, Jessa had upset some of her fans by comparing abortion to the Holocaust.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Michael didn’t focus much on Jessa Duggar a few months later when he shared his thoughts on the Josh Duggar sexual molestation scandal. Instead, he claimed that many other people would behave the same way Josh did if they had the opportunity to and didn’t fear the consequences of their actions. However, now it looks like Seewald regrets coming to Josh’s defense.

“After hearing of Josh’s scandal when he was a teenager, I publicly stated that Josh appeared to be a changed man, was walking above reproach, and living out the faith that he professed,” Jessa Duggar’s father-in-law wrote on the Seewald family website. “I stood in solidarity, encouraging him to use the scandal to build humility and grace. Sadly, he had deceived us all. The name of God has been blasphemed and God is jealous for his name.”

Most of Seewald’s post is about how dismayed he is by Jessa’s older brother doing something that makes his belief system look bad — he seems far more concerned about Christians’ credibility as moral authorities than he does about the pain Josh caused Anna Duggar.

“The thing that is so hurtful is that he was a loud voice endorsing Christian ethics and he has been shown to be a fraud. I am profoundly grieved that he attained such a platform only to bring shame on God’s holy name and the Christian faith.”

Some might find it a bit odd that Michael Seewald has just now started worrying about the Duggars tarnishing Christianity’s good name. In his blog about Josh Duggar’s molestation scandal, Seewald actually commended Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar for the way they handled the situation after they found out that their son was sexually abusing their daughters. However, according to a police report obtained by In Touch Weekly, the Duggars certainly weren’t deserving of praise.

Jim Bob and Michelle failed to take appropriate actions to protect Jessa and her sisters from Josh, even though he confessed that he had molested them on three separate occasions. Because of Jim Bob and Michelle’s failure to alert the proper authorities, Josh’s behavior got worse, and his parents didn’t get serious about doing something until he molested his 5-year-old sister. However, Seewald doesn’t think that Jim Bob and Michelle deserve to be harshly judged for their lack of action.

“Are Jim Bob and Michelle to be scolded for raising their children with high moral standards and this moral failing evidence that they are legalistic hypocrites? No,” he wrote. “The heart of the matter is do you have a good relationship with your children? From my perspective, this is where Jim Bob and Michelle excel.”

Do you think it’s sad that some Duggar supporters are more appalled by Josh cheating on his wife than they are by Josh molesting Jessa and her sisters? Feel free to share your thoughts below.
