New Orleans Saints Rumors: Time To Rebuild Roster, Trade Drew Brees?

New Orleans Saints rumors aren’t good for the struggling team. On Sunday (August 30), the Saints lost to the Houston Texans, falling to 0-3 during the 2015 NFL preseason. The game was an ugly one, with the Saints giving up points in each of the four quarters to lose 27-13. Doing it in front of the home crowd was worse, but there are a lot of fans that are going to fall back on the argument that “this is just a preseason game that doesn’t count.”

It’s been a while since the Saints won the 2009 Super Bowl, but fans remember fondly how Drew Brees led the tea all the way to the championship. A reality might soon set in that it is time for the franchise to entertain trade offers for Brees. It’s certainly not something that fans of the team want to hear, especially after all he has done for the franchise, but it might be the best move the team could make.

Last season, the Saints finished with a 7-9 record and missed the postseason. It’s worth pointing out that the team was only half a game back of the 7-8-1 Carolina Panthers for first place in the NFC South. One additional victory would have had the Saints in the postseason again, even if the team may have been over-matched by some of the opponents it could have faced.

New Orleans Saints rumors took a negative turn after a loss in Week 2 of the NFL preseason, but a third loss has made matters even worse. The team has only been out-scored by 19 points total, so there is also still some hope that the Saints could turn things around. If Drew Brees can find some rhythm with his new weapons, it’s certainly possible that the team could compete for another NFC South title. Once the postseason begins, anything can happen for the team.

It might indeed be too early in the season to “jump ship” on the Saints, but the trade of Jimmy Graham may also have been a major hint of how the front office feels about its chances. An excuse can be made that the team was looking to improve for the long-term, but giving up Graham immediately made the Saints weaker in the short-term. If the losing continues into the regular season, fans should definitely expect to hear New Orleans Saints rumors about the team rebuilding or heading in a new direction.
