‘Game of Thrones’ Wildest Fan Theory Yet: Jon Snow Has A Twin, But Who?

Game of Thrones fans, brace yourselves. Even if you are used to vicissitudes and flip-flops in your favorite show, there is nothing quite like what I am going to tell you.

In one of the wildest fan theories about Game of Thrones to have surfaced online, redditors have sought to unravel Jon Snow’s parentage and family. While pretty much everyone knows that Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark are Jon Snow’s parents, one fan theorist believes that Lyanna Stark also gave birth to a twin.

While the internet has been rife with possibilities about who this twin could be, a redditor going by the name of “ghostchief” claims to know the gender of the supposed twin. In an interesting prediction he has offered about the opening of Season 6, he has pointed out that it could be a flashback featuring Ned Stark and his sister, Lyanna, where the latter dies giving birth.

The dialogue swells and clarifies to [Lyanna’s] voice, “Promise me, Ned.”
Her eyes slowly close.
Ned begins to sob.
He raises his head to sound another high pitch noise coming from the foot of the bed.
A baby girl.

Surprised? There’s more to come.

Ever since this interpretation began its rounds on the Internet, Game of Thrones fans have not shied away from pouring in suggestions. Some believe that the biggest evidence should come from the show itself, meaning the person who looks the most like Jon Snow might be the twin fans are looking for. Others have suggested the twin could be a completely new character.

According to The Huffington Post, Jon Snow’s twin sister in Game of Thrones could be Meera Reed.

Describing the evidence at hand, Game of Thrones fans argue that not only is Meera similar to Jon Snow in looks (hair, build, shampoo, conditioner… okay, I’ll stop), but is also the exact same age.

“According to a ‘Wiki of Ice and Fire,’ and the appendix of Martin’s second novel in the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series, ‘A Clash of Kings’, Meera and Jon are the exact same age.”

Moreover, Mashable points out that mythology, one of the things writer George R. R. Martin is so particular about in Game of Thrones, also corroborates the claim. Jon and Meera’s alleged story is eerily similar to the story of Romulus and Remus in the myth of Rome’s foundation.

If this turns out to be true, as fans will only find out with time, Meera Reed could turn out to be the Neville Longbottom of Game of Thrones.
