Washington Redskins Rumors: Kirk Cousins Is Starting Quarterback Over Robert Griffin III

Washington Redskins rumors have the team naming Kirk Cousins as starting quarterback. These Redskins rumors indicate that Robert Griffin III will be relegated to the backup position for now. A report from ESPN on Saturday (August 29) indicates that the decision could partly be because Griffin is still trying to recover from a concussion. Griffin is still going through concussion-like symptoms from getting hit hard in an August 20 preseason game.

At halftime of a preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, Cousins already had 190 passing yards. He had completed 20-of-27 passes, throwing for one touchdown and giving up one interception during his playing time. It worked out to a quarterback rating of 90.1, and it showed that Cousins could be very ready to lead the team once the regular season begins. He could also be a sneaky pickup in fantasy football by owners paying close attention to the situation in Washington.

There had been numerous Washington Redskins rumors during the NFL offseason that dealt with the starting quarterback job. NFL analysts have come down on both sides of the issue, with some feeling that Robert Griffin III deserves another shot, and others feeling the team should belong to Kirk Cousins now. The supporters of Cousins may love the news coming from the front office this evening.

The Redskins have looked pretty good during the 2015 NFL preseason, posting a 2-0 record up until the game against Baltimore. The team is doing well on both sides of the ball, which is a necessity if the Redskins are going to get out of last place in the NFC East. Last year, the team finished at 4-12, with the Dallas Cowboys winning the division at 12-4. The Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are the favorites to win the East again in 2015.

The regular season begins for the Redskins on September 13, when the team hosts the Miami Dolphins. The Redskins get a home game in Week 2 as well, as they play host to the St. Louis Rams. Week 3 opens divisional play, with a road game against the New York Giants before returning home in Week 4 for a game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

No matter how well Kirk Cousins plays in the first few games this season, more Washington Redskins rumors will surely surface. Either Robert Griffin III is going to appear in trade rumors, or the team is going to make an official statement about moving on with Cousins getting the nod.
