Lucy Liu Welcomes A Baby Boy! ‘Elementary’ Star Had Son Rockwell Through Surrogate

Lucy Liu just had a baby! The 46-year-old first-time mom welcomed her new son, Rockwell Lloyd, who was born via surrogate, People is reporting. The proud mama posted pictures of her new son on social media.

Lucy’s rep also confirmed the new baby, in a statement to People.

“[Lucy] is the proud mother of Rockwell Lloyd Liu, brought into the world via gestational carrier. Mom and baby are healthy and happy.”

The new baby comes as a shock to Lucy’s fans – Liu had kept quiet about the fact that she was expecting a baby via surrogate. Rockwell is Lucy Liu’s first child.

The daughter of Chinese immigrant parents, Lucy Liu told People back in March that the values she learned from her parents – now grandparents to a bouncing baby boy – helped shaped her outlook.

“I felt like they really gave me an appreciation for the care and love we had. If we didn’t like what we had because it wasn’t spaghetti and meatballs, we were taught that there were children starving in other parts of the world and we were lucky to have food on our table.”

Those years developed in Lucy a heart for disadvantaged children. Since 1994, the Elementary star has been working with UNICEF – a United Nations program that provides aid to children and mothers in poverty-stricken countries.

“The atrocities that I’ve encountered on travels with the organization and the bravery that these children display is just shocking… I remember seeing children’s faces, and they did not look like children. Their expressions were those of adults who had been going through a very, very difficult time… UNICEF has given me an appreciation for life, for people and for humanity.”

These days, Lucy Liu keeps busy not just starring on the CBS hit Elementary, but also directing the show. Back in February she told CBS News what she’s learned from working behind the camera.

“I really love it. I think it’s just a natural progression from where I started over 20 years ago. It’s funny because you learn from the people you work with around you – not just the crew and directors, but just as a whole you see how everything starts working.”
