Lil Wayne Confused On Stage, Supposed To Perform Concert Instead Of Accepting An Award

Lil Wayne was the top performer at the Billboard Hot 100 Festival last weekend.

Instead of winning an award for his rapping skills or recent releases, Lil Wayne was there to perform. That was news to Lil Wayne, according to a New York Post report, as the rapper thought he was at the Jones Beach Theater in New York to pick up an award instead of perform at the musical festival.

The “Go D.J.” singer recovered from the mental lapse to deliver an hour-long set, however. Lil Wayne even returned to the stage later to perform with girlfriend Christina Milian. Milian’s set began just minutes after the “A Milli” singer left the stage.

A source close to Lil Wayne blamed the incident on exhaustion due to a loaded tour schedule this summer, according to the article.

“He looked around and was like, ‘I thought this was supposed to be the Billboard Music Awards.'”

Fans could excuse the “Selsun Blue” rapper for exhaustion, especially if it were in response to his efforts to release his latest album Tha Carter V. The collection of songs has been delayed for months, and no end appears in sight for Lil Wayne.

The reason for the delay has been multiple lawsuits. The bad blood between Lil Wayne and record label CEO Birdman has been at the heart of the lawsuit, according to documents obtained by TMZ. The 32-year-old rapper claimed that mismanagement and not properly paying artists are why Birdman is incompetent and should no longer manage the company.

Lil Wayne went as far as saying Nicki Minaj and Drake, two other artists on the label, were also considering jumping ship due to the ineffective management.

In the meantime, fans can enjoy the latest Lil Wayne collaboration, a song he recorded with fellow New Orleans native August Alsina. The duo connected on “Why I Do It” for Alsina’s sophomore album This Thing Called Life.

Lil Wayne also is connecting with fans in person and online through his latest concert in New Orleans. At Lil Weezyana Fest, the “Grindin'” rapper was joined by Drake and several other artists in a concert that also was streamed online through a number of websites. The concert set was so popular the event was trending worldwide on several outlets.
