‘Destiny’: Xur’s Exotic Goods For August 28, The Wait Is Real

The countdown to the release of Destiny: The Taken King and a potential inventory refresh from Xûr, Agent of the Nine reaches three weeks as of today, August 28. The mysterious vendor is back in the tower with a middling selection of Exotic goods as PlayStation and Xbox players await the release of the next expansion.

Destiny players looking for Xûr should turn right and head toward the hangar after spawning at the Tower. Once you’ve gone through the long hallway and entered the hangar, turn right and you will see the seller of Exotics. Here’s where you can find him on the Tower map, just to be sure.

Destiny - Xur Location - Hangar Corner

Xûr and his items will only be available in Destiny through the morning of Sunday, August 23. As soon as the clock strikes 5 a.m. ET / 2 a.m. PT, he will be gone.

There’s not much to say about Xûr’s offering this weekend. Peregrine Greaves are much like the Bones of Eao in that they are fun to use, but are outclassed by most other Exotic armor in PVE and PVP. Meanwhile, Apotheosis Veil, Crest of Alpha Lupi, and Plan C have all been offered frequently before.

However, it’s worth remembering that Exotics are changing as we move to Destiny Year Two. Collections is how Exotics can be stored outside of character inventory and the Vault while some Year One Exotics can be upgraded to new Year Two versions. You can get the full details here.

Here is what is available for sale and upgrade from Xûr this weekend. Thanks again to DestinyDB for the Exotic information below.

For those wondering what to get, here are a few helpful hints.

Plan C

Destiny Plan C (PlayStation, Xbox)

Plan C is one of the better Fusion Rifles in the game due to its stability and quick charge time. It’s also one of only two Arc Fusion Rifles in the game, which make it a no-brainer to grab for facing down Arc-shielded enemies or to use in Nightfall Strikes when Arc Burn is active. Its perks include bonus accuracy to hip fire, reduced charge time, and fast equip/charge time after swapping weapons.

Peregrine Greaves

Destiny Peregrine Greaves (PlayStation, Xbox)

Peregrine Greaves is only the second pair of Exotic boots for Titans and are very much a Striker sub-class item. The primary perk is “Peregrine Strike,” which gives Shoulder Charge 3x more damage mid-air. These are a very niche pair of boots in terms of utility but can provide for some fun moments in PVE. Shoulder Charge is already a one-shot kill in PVP, so there’s not much added benefit there.

The 140 Intellect stat roll is average for Destiny players and 12 points lower from the last time they were on sale. Still, it’s a solid purchase for collectors as we roll into The Taken King.

Crest of Alpha Lupi

Destiny Crest of Alpha Lupi - Hunter (PlayStation, Xbox)

The Crest of Alpha Lupi is for Hunters who roll with Hand Cannons as their primary weapons and also favor their special weapon. It comes with two perks to increase the amount of ammo you can carry for both. It’s also good for team players as the “Keeper of the Pack” perk will allow you to revive fallen teammates faster, be revived faster, and drop additional orbs for your teammates when you use your super ability. This chest piece has added value for Destiny players with the importance of being able to revive quickly in Trials of Osiris and Prison of Elders.

The 147 Strength stat roll is slightly below average with the new maximum at approximately 181 for chest pieces. Strength has gained in importance for Bladedancers in Prison of Elders, as being able to go invisible with Blink Strike has turned into a valuable attribute. The faster you can regenerate Blink Strike, the better.

Apotheosis Veil

Destiny Apotheosis Veil (PlayStation, Xbox)

The Apotheosis Veil helmet for Warlocks is a utility helmet that works well with either sub-class. It’s primary benefit in Destiny currently is to help with surviving the Crota’s End raid. The Infusion Perk replenishes health when you pick up Orbs of Light while Private Reserves immediately regenerates your health when activating your Super ability. These are useful in some PVE situations, as well as during hairy encounters in Nightfall Strikes and the like.

The 109 Discipline is below average for helmets, making this a pass this week unless you are looking to round out your Destiny Exotic collection with a missing piece.
