‘Empire’ Season 2 Adds ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Alum, New Promo Features New Music [Watch]

A new love interest is on the way for Empire’s Becky, played by Gabourey Sidibe. According to Variety, Mo McRae has been cast in a role in the second season of the hit drama, with his character having his eyes set on Becky.

McRae will be playing J-Poppa in the new season of the hit drama. J-Poppa is a good looking, laid back type of individual who is involved with Lucious Lyon’s (Terrence Howard) assistant, Becky. In addition to his romantic ties with Becky, J-Poppa is also set to make a strong bond with Andre (Trai Byers).

His casting in Empire isn’t the first time McRae has worked alongside Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. McRae worked with both men on the 2013 movie, The Butler.

In addition to his appearance on Empire, McRae has a spot as a series regular on Murder in the First. His other appearances include stints on Sons of Anarchy, Ray Donovan, Wild, and Battle Creek. McRae is also set to appear in HBO’s upcoming biopic All The Way. He is represented by CAA and Untitled.

Meanwhile, as Empire prepares for its second season, a brand new promo trailer has just been released. With only a few more weeks to wait until the hit drama returns to television, the promo featured a number of exciting spoilers, including a new song.

The new trailer features a song titled “No Doubt About It” by Jussie Smollett and Pitbull. With Jamal’s first record set to be released on the heels of his successful single, the new song indicates that the artist might be trying for a more upbeat feel.

Speaking of Jamal, the new season will also focus on the character as he tries to make amends with his younger sibling, Hakeem. With Lucious locked behind bars, Jamal will have to fend off his other family members as he acts as the CEO of Empire Entertainment.

“I want you back at Empire,” Jamal tells Hakeem in the video. “Because we’re family.”

At the same time, Cookie is set to be as menacing and marvelous as she was in the first season.

“This is about us taking the Empire,” she is heard saying in the promo.

Will Cookie be able to overtake Jamal and take over the business while Lucious is sidelined in prison? Watch all the drama unfold as the second season of Empire premieres September 23 on Fox. Check out the latest promo below.
