THQ Trying To Sell Off ‘Devil’s Third’

The future of Devil’s Third, Itagaki’s first game since departing from Team Ninja, isn’t looking so bright anymore. The game was originally expected to come out in 2013 with THQ handling the publishing end, but now the publisher has decided to back out.

Devil’s Third doesn’t appear to be cancelled, but the publisher is looking to sell off the publishing rights to the game. THQ didn’t go into detail on who they were talking with and how the talks were going, but they did say that they were having discussions with “several” companies.

“The profitability profile for Devil’s Third no longer met our internal threshold and we are currently in discussions with third parties regarding the future of this title,” THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell said.

“There were a couple of unforeseen events that happened during the development of Devil’s Third. One was the company that Valhalla was using for the engine went out of business, so we had to assist Itagaki and the team with a new engine – it took a fair amount of time and cost a fair amount of money.”
