Tempers Flare On JetBlue Flight, Sparking Epic Razor, Pepper Spray Fight Between Women

Flying is stressful. So stressful, sometimes, that you have to whip out your eyebrow razor and pepper spray if someone gets in your face.

Apparently, after a JetBlue flight from Jamaica landed at JFK Wednesday, two women couldn’t handle the pressure of air travel anymore. They unleashed weapons and had an epic fight right in their seats, and their hot tempers resulted in one injured Good Samaritan and a bunch of sickened JetBlue passengers, CBS Local reported.

In this corner, by the window, was Jean Ballentine, 61, of Brooklyn. In the other corner, sitting right next door, was Mary Cannady, 52, of Linden, New Jersey. And here’s how the fight went down, according to accounts from the New York Daily News and PIX 11.

After the JetBlue flight landed Wednesday morning and was taxiing toward the terminal, Ballentine (by the window) started to climb over Cannady, sparking the fight, a Port Authority spokesman explained. Cannady responded by pushing her off. And then Ballentine cracked her across the face.

Now, the fight was on. As fellow JetBlue passengers looked on, a man nearby tried to break up the scuffle, but Ballentine was already in a full rage and whipped out her eyebrow razor, slashing at the man’s elbow.

With a three-person fight underway, Cannady pulled out her weapon of choice — a canister of pepper spray. And she aimed it right at Ballentine and pulled the trigger, spraying her full in the face.

It wasn’t immediately clear how the fight was ultimately split up, but the two women are now in deep trouble. First of all, several fellow JetBlue passengers were sickened by the pepper spray and had difficulty breathing. They were treated by EMTs and released. The Good Samaritan with the slashed elbow was also treated; the wound was minor.

As for Jean and Mary, they’re facing some criminal charges for failing to keep their tempers at bay. Ballentine was arrested on assault and weapons charges, and Cannady for possessing pepper spray.

But here’s the million dollar question: How were these women even able to bring their weapons on the JetBlue flight in the first place? Without them, this fight may have just been a battle of fists, rather than a fight of drawn blood and burned eyeballs.

The answer is simple: Officials at Kingston Airport in Jamaica were responsible for checking passengers for weapons. If the JetBlue flight had originated in the States, neither of those women would’ve been allowed to bring their weapons of choice on board.
