Anne Hathaway To Star in Sci-Fi Comedy ‘The Shower’
According to the the Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, Hathaway is attached to star in and produce the film with husband, Adam Shulman, along with Andrew Lauren and D.J. Gugenheim of Andrew Lauren Productions. The script was written by Jac Schaeffer — who will also produce — and made last year’s Blacklist, the annual listing of best unmade screenplays in Hollywood.
The Shower, a female-strong science-fiction comedy in the vein of Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids, Seth Rogen’s apocalypse comedy, This Is The End, and cult hit Attack The Block, begins with an ordinary baby shower. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, the gathering is interrupted by a meteor shower, which is a prelude to an alien invasion. The female shower guests are soon under attack from blood-thirsty aliens and must fight to save themselves and, in the process, the world.
The project is still in development as the search for a director and actors begins before presenting it to financiers and the relevant studios. Hathaway and Schaeffer gave their thoughts.
Schaeffer wrote, produced, and directed her debut feature, TiMER, in 2009. The Shower is still very much in development, but news is sure to surface as the project rolls on.
With hits such as The Dark Knight Rises, Alice in Wonderland, and Les Misérables under her belt, as well as acclaimed films like Rachel Getting Married and Brokeback Mountain, Hathaway shows that she can step into a multitude of characters. If anyone needs convincing of her comedy skills, you only have to watch Get Smart,Love & Other Drugs, or The Devil Wears Prada to confirm that, if cast in The Shower, she can anchor the film and make it a success.
