Animal Lovers Can Now Share 23 Dog Emojis On iOS & Android Courtesy Of Dogs Trust

Anyone with a fondness for canines can now download a brand new dog emojis keyboard for Apple iOS and Google Android with a selection of different breeds to share with their friends.

The dog emojis are the brainchild of Dogs Trust, a dog welfare charity in the UK. The keyboard itself contains 23 of the UK’s most popular dog breeds, and the designs are based on actual canines actively seeking new homes at the 20 Dogs Trust Rehoming Centers in the UK and Ireland.

According to ITV News, the Dogs Trust hopes to use the power of one of the world’s fastest growing languages, emojis, to help find homes for the hundreds of dogs currently housed in those centers.

While Dogs Trust is a UK based organization, the dog emoji keyboard is available for anyone to download from August 26 and is free on both iOS and Android.

Dogs Trust selected the breeds to be used as dog emojis using their own data, combined with pet population figures in the UK. With the 23 current breeds of dog on offer, users will also be able to depict their own family dogs using the cartoon icons.

There’s a choice of everything from the tiny breeds right up to Great Danes and English sheepdogs. A dachshund and pug are also featured, as well as more exotic breeds such as huskies and shar-pei.

Adrian Burder, CEO of Dogs Trust, says on their website that as the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, they “have a responsibility to ensure all are fairly treated, and represented, in both the digital and real world.”

While Unicode had announced several dog additions to the choices, Dogs Trust says there is only a handful to choose from. By adding their dog emojis to the mix, dog lovers can share a full variety of different breeds.

“While we fully support the recent updates to diversify the emoji keyboard, with nine million canines in family homes across the country, we also feel deserve that same representation. We see so many wonderfully different every day, we wanted to share this with the public! We’re delighted to launch Dogs Trust Emoji which will allow us to celebrate the wonderful variety of our UK population in a fun and creative way.”

This is good news indeed, as emojis have become a major method of online communication and, of course, it is all in a very good cause — helping to raise awareness and find homes for lovable hounds.

Anyone interested in the dog emojis can download free on Apple iOS and Google Android.

It is also possible to see the actual dogs at Dogs Trust who are the stars behind the dog emojis on the Dogs Trust website. Anyone living nearby and keen on adopting a dog can browse each one’s information and see their actual photographs.

The offer couldn’t have come at a better time, as August 26, the date of the release of the dog emojis, is also National Dog Day in the UK.
