Ronda Rousey On Floyd Mayweather: ‘When He Learns To Read Or Write, He Can Text Me’

The war of words between Ronda Rousey and Floyd Mayweather continues. This time, Rousey may have dropped Mayweather with a low blow.

“It’s kind of funny, people bring up pay to me a lot,” Rousey told TMZ this week. “I don’t know if you saw the Floyd thing. He said, ‘when you make $300 million in a night, then you can give me a call.’ I actually did the math, and given the numbers of my last fight, I’m actually the highest paid UFC fighter, and I’m a woman. I think I actually make two to three times more than he does per second. So when he learns to read and write, he can text me.”

Rousey is referencing the rumors that Floyd Mayweather can’t read, or at least does so poorly. A radio station, Power 105, released an audio clip of Mayweather last year struggling to read a drop for the Show Your Stripes program.

Rousey typically generates universally positive publicity, as she’s seen as a public figure who empowers women. However, this, along with the accusations that she’s dating suspended UFC fighter Travis Browne while he’s being investigated for domestic violence, may not prove well for her.

Much like Browne, Mayweather has been accused (and convicted) of charges regarding domestic violence. Rousey has plenty of ammunition to use on the boxing king, so alienating an entire group of illiterate people may not have been in her best interest.

The feud started last year, when asked about Ronda Rousey, Mayweather claimed to not know who Rousey was.

Months later, Rousey defeated Mayweather at the ESPYs in the “Best Fighter” category, and fired back at Mayweather verbally.

“I wonder how Floyd feels getting beat by a woman for once. I’d like to see him pretend to not know who I am now,” Rousey said.

When Mayweather was asked about the swipe on air, he criticized the UFC and Rousey’s income.

“A while back I didn’t know who Ronda Rousey was, so I’m pretty sure she got upset. I want to say congratulations to Ronda Rousey and the UFC,” Mayweather said. “You guys have done a tremendous job and I’ve won probably six or seven ESPYS for Fighter of the Year. I truly believe she deserves it. Congratulations to Ronda Rousey. I’ve yet to see any MMA fighter, or other boxer, make over $300 million in 36 minutes. When she can do that, then call me.”

Either way, both Mayweather and Ronda Rousey are rock solid at the box office, with pay-per-view numbers going through the roof when each of them fight. Mayweather is scheduled to face Andre Berto on September 12, while Rousey will face Holly Holm at UFC 195 on January 2.
