2015 MTV Video Music Awards: Only 6 Performers Announced, 3 More Rumored

MTV is calling its 2015 Video Music Awards “one epic night,” but only six performers were announced this year. Months ago, it was announced that Miley Cyrus would host this year’s award show. Fans have been wondering who will perform at the 2015 VMAs. Now some have been left underwhelmed by the recent news.

Miley took to Instagram to announce her exciting new gig. In typical Miley Cyrus fashion, she held a sign while wearing a bright green alien costume. She captioned the photo: “F**k yeah VMAs!!!!! #VMAs on @MTV Aug 30 at 9pm.”

It’s been assumed that Miley won’t perform at this year’s VMAs, but she’s been sharing photos of herself rehearsing with the band The Flaming Lips. So, anything is possible at the Video Music Awards!

The performers have been announced on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and there is only a handful this time around. The lineup at the 2015 MTV VMAs includes A$AP Rocky with Twenty One Pilots, Demi Lovato, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, The Weeknd, Tori Kelly, and Pharrell. MTV also hinted that Ed Sheeran could come out on stage as one of the surprise guests.

Maybe the British singer-songwriter will perform the song, “I Was Made For Loving You,” with the emerging pop artist, Tori Kelly. However, she could also perform her hit song, “Should’ve Been Us.”

Oddly enough, Pharrell will be taking the stage for the first time ever at the 2015 VMAs. He will be performing his new song, “Freedom.”

Demi Lovato was too excited to share her announcement about performing at this year’s Video Music Awards. She tweeted to her fans: “I’M PLAYING THE #VMAs B***HES!!!!!!! #CoolForTheSummerVMA @MTV.” By the looks of her tweet, Lovato may perform “Cool For the Summer” or her rumored new song, “Confident.”

It’s also been rumored that The Weeknd will open up the awards show with a performance of his hit song, “Can’t Feel My Face.” This will be the singer’s first televised performance of this song, despite its rampant success this summer.

As for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, they haven’t had a hit song since “Same Love.” They could perform their new song, “Growing Up.”

In addition to the six performances, Kanye West will be presented with the lifetime achievement award called the Vanguard Award. Expect a powerful and iconic performance from the rapper as he’ll play a medley of his hits. Wonder if Taylor Swift will dance along or interrupt his speech? Fans have tweeted that the “Bad Blood” singer should present Yeezus with the award.

It was previously assumed that Selena Gomez and Bruno Mars would perform at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. An insider told the Hollywood Life that Swift would perform along with her best friend, Selena Gomez and Bruno Mars.

“Taylor Swift is set to perform ‘Bad Blood.’ Selena Gomez is also on the list of performers, along with Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar.”

However, it’s been previously reported that Taylor Swift would only be at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards to premiere her new music video, “Wildest Dreams.” As you probably know, Swift premiered her “Bad Blood” video at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. Looks like it’s going to be an ongoing tradition with the chart-topping singer.

The celebrity gossip site has been known to get stories wrong, so it’s safe to say that we should take these rumors with a grain of salt! However, it is the 2015 VMAs, so expect the unexpected. Even some reports have no clue what A$AP and Twenty One Pilots will perform as they take the stage on Sunday night. Maybe he will add some verses to their new song, “Car Radio.”
