Michael Jackson’s striking array of stage outfits and costumes will be heading off on a world tour later this year, before being sold at auction in December.

Some of Jackson’s most iconic stagewear will be involved in the eventual auction, including his sparkling gloves, spangled jackets, and boots that were moonwalked in before the singer’s sudden death on June 25, 2009.

Celebrity auctioneer Darren Julien will take charge of this no doubt lucrative auction. Julien, who was also behind the sale of several Whitney Houston outfits and some of the late singer’s jewelry last month, says clothing created by Jackson’s longtime costume designers will feature in exhibits in South America, Europe and Asia.

Knowing the obsessive (not to mention highly international) audience Jackson enjoyed, the shows are likely to prove a hit amongst the many who can’t afford to buy their own Jackson originals.

The exhibit opens May 18 at the Museo de la Moda in Santiago, Chile. It will display garments such as Jackson’s Captain EO shirt, the black spandex outfit from his Scream video and the breakaway suit he wore during his BAD tour in the late 1980s.

Come December 2, the items will go under the block in Beverly Hills, where they’ll no doubt attract some eye-watering amounts of cash.
