Manchester United Transfer News: Neymar In Talks With The Red Devils?

It is no secret that Manchester United is targeting a next forward to bolster their attack before the end of the transfer market. After losing out on Pedro Rodriguez to rivals Chelsea, United has stepped up the efforts to sign a replacement for Angel Di Maria.

Manchester United have been linked with Barcelona’s Neymar, and the rumor has been gathering momentum as the days go by. So much so that the Brazilian’s agent and manager has weighed in on the transfer saga.

As reported by the Spanish newspaper Marca, Neymar’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, has denied any validity of the transfer rumor. He said, “There’s no truth in it. He has three more years left on his contract. The English press love spreading rumors. Barcelona have never thought of selling Neymar and he is very happy there.”

Barcelona’s manager, Luis Enrique, also weighed on Manchester United’s rumored interest in Neymar as The Daily Mail reported.

“Talking about Neymar and other clubs doesn’t interest me. ‘I don’t talk about rumors. I focus on what happens in my team.”

It is unclear whether Manchester United has placed Neymar on their shortlist, but it is likely to include Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, on the possibility of Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea moving in the opposite direction.

The Manchester United boss is seemingly satisfied with the options available upfront despite calls from fans for an out and out number 9. Louis Van Gaal is remaining confident in Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez.

“I have a lot of options, I have chosen Chicharito [Hernandez], because he is another type from Rooney, and we have also Fellaini, who is another type, then I have Wilson and Januzaj, so I don’t think we need a striker.”

He went on to elaborate that he would only splash the cash if the best striker in the world became available.

“If he is the best striker in the world then, yes, we need him, but if he cannot contribute in our eyes, then we won’t buy any striker. But when he does, we shall buy. In a club like Manchester United, you never know that, because you have seen it for example with Falcao and Di Maria last season: great players, but they have to adapt to the culture of Manchester United. You have that with every buy. “
