WWE News: Big Backstage Update On WWE NXT Star Samoa Joe Never Performing On WWE’s Main Roster

WWE NXT has been great for the past year or so. One of the many reasons for this is the hiring of top tier Indy talent like Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn. It made total sense to continue bringing in guys like this, because not only were they getting over with fans, but they were putting out great matches day in and day out. When Samoa Joe left TNA Wrestling, it made all the sense in the world for WWE Executive Triple H to sign him to a WWE contract.

We knew he would appear in WWE NXT, and it was said that it would not be an exclusive deal but rather an open one, where he could work other Indy dates, but WWE NXT would be priority. They also paid Joe the best, so clearly, he didn’t want to ruin that. It was said that due to his impressive merchandise sales, WWE felt it would be good to sign him to an exclusive WWE deal. They did just that, but Samoa Joe will be finishing up his dates by the end of September on the Indy scene.

This exclusive deal gave WWE fans hope that we would one day see Samoa Joe on the main roster. However, that may not be the case now. According to Cageside Seats, there is some talk going on claiming that Samoa Joe will never get out of NXT. The fact that he may never appear on the main roster is a big bummer for WWE fans, but due to how huge NXT has been, it is not like Joe is really going to be hurt by this.

WWE NXT is now its own brand. WWE announced they they are going to the UK with NXT only in December. They just sold out the same place that WWE SummerSlam sold out with their WWE NXT Takeover: Brooklyn show. Samoa Joe happened to be on that very show and had a terrific match with Baron Corbin. WWE is not hiding his impressive Indy career, either, as on the pre-show, WWE Hall of Famer Lita spoke out about Joe working for Zero One and Ring of Honor in his career. They talk him up as a veteran in the wrestling business, because he is.

This is unlike what WWE has done with other Indy stars, as they have tried to hide this fact from people in order to create a new person that WWE fans can see as a WWE creation. However, due to NXT’s Indy feel, it makes total sense for WWE to exploit the Indy popularity and hire guys that have spent time there and be sure to bring up their credentials from around the world.

Samoa Joe may never make WWE’s main roster, but the fact that Jushin “Thunder” Liger was on NXT Takeover last night and not on WWE SummerSlam tonight proves that NXT is just as big as anything WWE has right now. It is the hottest thing in pro-wrestling, and everyone wants to take part. Joe is by no means hurting because he is on NXT. In fact, some might say that NXT is a better fit for most, compared to a WWE RAW or SmackDown show.
