Was Paula Abdul Lip-Syncing “I’m Just Here for the Music” on American Idol?

paula abdul lip syncing im just in it for the music on american idol

Was Paula Abdul Lip-Syncing on American Idol? The internets are abuzz about tonight’s (Wednesday May 6th) episode of American Idol where Paula Abdul debuted her new single, “I’m Just Here for the Music.”

Yes, Paula Abdul can still dance and she looks great but what’s up with her singing? It was “OK” but that’s about it and to top it off, she was definitely lip-syncing the song.

Paula Abdul Lip Syncing Comments from Twitter

Paula Abdul’s AI performance makes Britney’s lip syncing look authentic (didnt watch but sounds as bad as expected.)

Idol was good tonight, although I could have done without the Paula Abdul lip synch. Really now, a pitch perfect voice upside down? Yeah

if you’re watching a Paula Abdul performance for the singing, you need to straighten out your priorities.

What did you think of Paula Abdul’s Lip Syncing? Hint :P aula stop singing, it was bad..lol

can we vote Paula Abdul off of American Idol?

WTF paula abdul?? Britney’s vma disaster was less embarassing!!!

paula abdul was DEFINITELY lip syncing. completelyy obvious!

Lip-Syncing at the Super Bowl is one thing.

Lip-Syncing on the set of a live vocal talent competition is another.

Lip-Syncing on the set of a live vocal talent competition….and you're one of the judges…..is so far out of line it's incredible.

She's going to suffer major backlash from this, and it will be well deserved.

  2. I'm just now watching the show on my DVR, and it is obvious that she is lip-synching. What's with the weird synthesizer sound? It doesn't even sound like her.

  3. Why bother to wear a microphone if you're not actually singing?

  4. of course it's synched. she's dancing her ass off! It kinda has to be.
They didn't say 'here's paula singing her new single”
they said “here's paula PERFORMING her new single”

    and that she did.
I loved it really, she dances amazingly, and was the most interesting piece of the show tonight.
Woo!! I want to see her dance more often.

  5. um…yeah
…but she looked good and the dancing was decent.

  6. Come on, Paula ain't a live singer and never was, and there was never a chance she'd sing live on a show where she critiques vocal ability. She would have been crucified much worse for that than just for lip-synching. I actually dig the song, auto-tune and all, but I don't see it being a runaway hit.

  7. We must remember that Paula's heyday was in Janet Jackson's shadow, when choreography was the centerpiece and part of the message, and the song was just kind of the vehicle driving it along. It was “okay” to lip-synch as long as you had intricate choreography that made it a real “performance.” That's not a defense but an explanation… one that didn't matter anymore after the Milli Vanilli fallout. Personally, I don't think you get more ironic than to lip-synch on the show you judge as a live singing competition, but there ya go. That's Paula. I still like the song.

  8. UUUGgghhh! Wow, that was AWFUL!!!! She looks great and can still move pretty well – not near as good as she used to – but she looked good. The lip synching was some of the worst I have ever seen…. God bless her for trying….. She should be glad that Simon doesn't get to critique that!!!!!!!!

  9. Having Gwen Stefani follow her made Paula look so very untalented. No Doubt was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares if Paula Abdul was lip Syncing. Paula doesn't need to prove herself to anyone. She has so many records/awards she can lip sync everyday if she wanted. She's already famous. But I am pretty sure she was, no one can sing like that upside down or jumping everywhere. I mean you seen No Doubt perform she was awesome but she wasn't lip syncing she was out of breath at the end. Pretty impossible to lip sync perfectly fine after not out of breath.

  11. What a shame that she can't sing and dance at the same time. Not a true performer, that's for sure.

Who cares, You can't dance like that and sing,,It just doesn't work.
I think her dancing was fun and unexpected…
Just enjoy a guilty pleasure will ya?

  13. Of course Paula was lip syncing. She certainly can't sing…so lip syncing is a must! It's pretty ridiculous that she has the balls to judge talented singers weekly, yet her voice is so bad. As you saw from Gwenn Stefani, dancing and real singing can be done and done well!

    Hey Tim,

Janet learned her choreography and routines, FROM Paula Abdul !
As did a lot of other people.

  15. Don't go on stage on a singing show (being a judge) and lip sync. How strange and very weird. GO NO DOUBT! They are the real thing!

  16. Some of you might be too young to remember the “why” lip syncing is bad, but once westopped trying to blame it on the rain,(that a clue for you young ones) we moved on to Madonna and her tour and She still sang but had some pre recorded sounds (some of her own) as back ups. Cher got a lot of flak for her performances where she HAD to lip synch simply because she recorded the song with the computer voice reverb. She even modified a performance to agree to sing the song herself than they would let her lip synce the “computer altered” voice. Paula has done the exact same thing i suppose.
Go look at the charts for the last 2 years and see how many songs ARE altered in EVERY genre. (Rap,R&B,POP.even COUNTRY)
Paula is sweet, beautiful and very strong lady who inspired me to begin spots like cheerleading, gymnastics, dancing, etc and she is inspiring me yet agin to KEEP doing what I love, whay I am good at, regardless of our age.

Abdul will debut her first single “I’m Just Here for the Music” that would be out on fall. She makes use of auto-tune and electronic synthesizers in her musical comeback.

  18. This is a singing show, where the contestants are expected to sing and show their vocal talents. Not a dance show.

How can Paula possibly come out and lip sinc her entire song? She should have known better.

I can't imagine what the contestants were thinking backstage.

Gwen put Paula to shame. She's a complete talent. Gwen totally rocks!

Yeah very obvious lip syncing but she was never known for her singing in the first place which has always confused me why she was picked to be a judge in the first place. Her choreography was alright though…but why is everyone praising Gwen Stefani when she performed? Her voice sounded horrible….at least when people lip sync they are easier on the ears.

“Gwen put Paula to shame. She's a complete talent. Gwen totally rocks!”

I am not a fan of Gwen Stefani, but at least she had the guts to carry her act live. That's real, and I can't stand fakes. Paula Abdul is a fake. This isn't “Dancing With the Stars”. It's American Idol.

She's on the wrong damn show.

I agree!!! Gwen Stefani was terrible. I usually like her, but that was a terrible performance. What's with doing push-ups in the middle of singing? And she wasn't even dancing! She was jumping around the stage like she was high on something! I don't get it! As for Paula, I thought it was a good song, great dancing and overall good performance. I agree that it's pretty bad that she lip synched on a live “singing” show, but I give her credit for still having it in her!

Perfect voice at mid twirl. You're onto something.

  23. What's worse than lip-syncing is that they had to use auto-tune on the recording. That just means that she can't even record a song well without mechanizing it. But she really can still dance well.

No Doubt wasn't any better. I like their music, but Gwen really didn't do very well. She was out of breath half the time. At least she was really singing, though.

  24. But i don't get it…why would she do a performance when she can't sing? i mean come on! And after she PREFORMED Ryan asked why now? and i thought the same thing- this is the first time Paula has done stuff on the show so why now. Did the recordings finally start working or something? oh well the sound of the music was OK and the dancing was weird but decent…she wanted publicity…lol

  25. HAHAHA, you call that dancing and real singing? Gwen was horrible. Anyone with half a brain could see that.

  26. You've got to be kidding. Do you need your hearing checked? It was horrific!!!!

  27. Yep…Paula and Gwen were both equally horrific. However, at least Gwen was actually singing.

Hehehe no don't say that, lol. Dancing is when she's in her element! When I was watching the show I thought it went totally opposite – Paula put Gwen to shame. Well not exactly, I don't think anyone was put to shame, but Paula's coreoraphy was better and the song was way cooler, even if it wasn't sung live. I would have liked Gwen's performance better I think if it was lipsync! How weird is that, lol!? But it's true.

She simply wore the mike for 2 reasons, 1 so she could look the part. Its simple, its like an architect visiting a construction site to over plans with the foreman. He wears a Hard Hat to simply look the part because he knows damn well he is not going to get hit in the head with a brick. 2 She wore the mike to introduce the show after her LS performance. LipSynching is excepted in this generation because this generation will buy anything if it packaged in a shiny wrapper. This never would have happened before 1980s.

heck of alot better than Jamie Foxx's performance.. you gonna say that was horrific to? he lip synchs to and his voice was way more synthesized than paulas.. at least paul had some syncrinized dance moves, all jamie did was walk around and touch his crotch like all the other r&b singers and rappers do..

keep in mind no doubt isnt a band anymore because Gwen was sleeping with all the band members.. doesnt make her any better just because she sang one song with a band she doesnt perform with now.. Gwenn was good when she was in the band and sucks now that she went solo..

  33. GWEN SUCKED BIG TIME, NEVER SEEN HER PERFORM OR SOUND WORSE!!!!!!!!! American Idol contestants put her to shame, what happened to her I thought she was great or something????

I personally thought it was horrible. It's absolutely disgusting that she would lip sing on a singing competition show. She should get fired. She's not 20 anymore and her dancing wasn't that great. Just my opinion though

  35. It happened ALL the time on British TV…obviously I can't speak for the US, because I've never lived there.

  36. before the 1980's they all lip-synched…very little “live” music on tv in the old days! i'm thinking of old variety shows, 50's, 60's, early 70's
