Online Florists Popular For Last-Minute Mother’s Day Gifts, But Experts Recommend Caution

online florists 2012

Online florists are one of newer and more convenient aspects of the internet’s integration into modern life, and many seeking last-minute Mother’s Day gifts are searching out online florists for a fuss-free and convenient gift for the mothers in their lives.

But while many online florists are well-known (if not well-priced, as some arrangements can clock in at the $100-150 range or more), not all online florists are on the up and up and experts urge caution in making what is, for many, a significant purchase.

National online florists like Teleflora and 1-800-Flowers have reviews across the internet testifying to their service and value when it comes to ordering last-minute Mother’s Day gifts over the web. But many online florists rely on the local nature of flower delivery, meaning that finding a reputable online florist is key when sinking big bucks into a gift for mom.

Among the recommendations made for finding a reputable online florist go back to reviews- asking friends, family and co-workers about their experiences with online flower retailers. Another strongly recommended practice is learning your prospective online florist’s bricks and mortar location, phone number and even asking for directions to their shop to verify the business is on the up and up.

Those using online florists for last-minute Mother’s Day gifts are urged to request an itemized bill from their online florist of choice detailing charges for the items ordered, service fees and delivery associated with their purchase. Lastly, it is recommended those ordering from online florists check BBB ratings for any service before placing an order.

I was born into the flower business. These 1800 flowers places and internet florist are the biggest scam out there. If you want to order flowers you can do so over the internet by contacting a florist in that town online or looking up in the yellow pages for that city. These internet 1800 flowers or Pro flowers are not FLOWER SHOPS they are warehouses of phone banks. They will give you a price that is low but by the time they tack on their charges it can add up to $30 or more for a $25 arrg. If you order from a florist in the town or neighborhood where they go it is not that expensive. You will be charged for your arrangement plus delivery and tax. Some of these 800 places don't arrange the flowers they send them from a grower via Fed Ex and you have to make the arrangement yourself. We get many calls every holiday because people think we did not do our job. Or people complain because they were charged $50-$75 or more and they feel they just got a small arrangement. What they are not told at ordering time is that the receiving florist is only given $20 or $30 for that order no delivery charge so that has to be deducted by the filling florist thus reducing the size and value of the flowers. We have been in business in the Cleveland area for over 60 years and these outfits that have cropped up over night have ruined the ligiment florist. Don't fall for their claims. CALL A LOCAL FLORIST FOR THE BEST PRICES AND NICE FLOWERS. PERSONAL SERVICE WITH A PROFESSINAL NOT A PHONE SERVICE!

  2. Mel, thanks for the insight, I've gone thru that experiences exactly like that. I might add thesecontracted florists probably dont care either because they figure you won't be a regular customer at their store. I would like to add ask friends/family for a recommendation whos is good locally, and most importantly establish a relationship with them if you plan to do repeat business. Don't order over the phone, go in so they can put a face with the name; also I beleive they will be more accountable if they know they will see you again. I've finally found a local florist Im very satisfied with; the internet florists are indeed a ripoff.
