Inge, who hit a three-run blast and drove in four runs in the contest, became the first player with four games with four or more RBIs in a five-game stretch since Lou Gehrig in 1931, according to ESPN.

Over his past five games, Brandon is hitting .350 with four home runs, including two grand slams, and has driven in 16 runs.

“He’s really swinging well right now,” said Tigers skipper Jim Leyland. “He’s got a second wind and its good for him. He’s swinging the bat as good as I’ve seen him swing it for a while. He’s in a pretty good groove right now.”

Joining Inge in the outburst on Friday was A’s outfielder Josh Reddick, who went 4-for-4 with a three-run and solo home run, five RBI and four runs scored.

Inge, who was released by the Tigers on April 26 after batting .100 (2 for 20) with one home run and two RBIs in nine games this season, was signed by Oakland to fill a void at third base after the team tried several options at the spot following Scott Sizemore’s season-ending knee injury at the start of spring training.

“It’s good to feel wanted. That’s an important thing,” Inge said of playing for the Athletics. “The other part is coming into this group of guys, there’s not one guy on this team who has given me a hard time, if it’s not joking. The whole attitude of this ballclub is very much laid back, but at the same time, you step between the lines and it’s very much business.”
