Shannen Doherty’s Breast Cancer Battle; Alyssa Milano Ends Their Feud To Support Her

Actress Shannen Doherty was forced to go public with her battle with breast cancer after paperwork involving a lawsuit Doherty filed against her former manager revealed details of her plight.

The 44-year-old Doherty, who has been acting since the age of ten, claimed her former management firm Tanner Mainstain Glynn and Johnson failed to pay her SAG medical insurance premium, thus causing the policy to lapse. Shannen claims she was unable to see her physicians for routine exams and, as a result, in March of 2015, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer that has already metastasized to a lymph node. Doherty claims early intervention would have given her better odds in her fight against the disease.

While a judge must decide if Doherty’s former firm is culpable, Shannen is embracing the positivity that has surrounded her while she continues her treatment, “I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.” One source of emotional support for Doherty has come from a highly unexpected source–Shannen’s former Charmed co-star Alyssa Milano, an actress with whom Doherty has been in an ongoing war of words with.

Milano surprisingly tweeted her support of Doherty Wednesday afternoon:

Shannen Doherty is best known for her roles on Beverly Hills 90210, Charmed, and in the cult classic film Heathers. But Doherty also gained a reputation as someone who was difficult to work with leading to multiple rumors of feuds with multiple co-stars.

Earlier in the year, Doherty was criticized for comments she made regarding former 90210 co-star Jason Priestley as he was promoting his memoir. Priestley’s book suggested that Shannen was quite the diva on the 90210 set, a description Doherty didn’t take kindly to. During a radio interview, Shannen suggested a near fatal car accident Priestley had been in may have caused the actor brain damage.

Shannen’s feud with Alyssa stems from an interview in which Milano described working on Charmed as being similar to being in high school due to Doherty and fellow cast mate Holly Marie Combs’ close relationship and that there were some “rough days” during her three years sharing the Charmed set with Doherty. At the time, Doherty responded by with a jab of her own stating, “I’m 30-years-old and I don’t have time for drama in my life anymore. I’ll miss Holly a lot…”

Doherty and Combs would be asked about the feud with Milano again in January of 2015 as they attempted to promote their new series, Off the Map. During an interview with Fox News, Doherty was asked how she felt about Milano and the “high school” remark. Doherty responded, “You know what, I think its high school for us to talk about it. Let’s just let it be.”

And so it would seem that Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano have let bygones be bygones. As Alyssa sent her love and support to Doherty, one can only hope her 90210 co-stars will express similar sentiments to Shannen Doherty as she fights for her life.

Life is too fragile to hold grudges. Shannen Doherty can attest to it.
