Patrick Stewart Adds Conan O’Brien To List Of Male Kissing Companions
Sir Patrick Stewart is known for playing the iconic captain, Jean-Luc Picard, in Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as the professor, Charles Xavier, in the X-Men series. Seventy-five-year-old Stewart has been attracting attention recently with his passionate salutations.
On June 10, Stewart was photographed, embraced with Sir Ian Mckellen, with the two engaged in a masculine, full-mouthed kiss.
Last night, Patrick Stewart stopped-by Conan, where Conan O’Brien questioned him about the McKellen kiss.
O’Brien says to Stewart, “I saw a photo, not long ago, and I thought we should talk about it because it’s a fantastic image. It’s you with Sir Ian McKellen, and you’re — obviously — I think this is when you first met… [laughter] You’re old friends, and you’ve known each other a long time, and you guys went in for a kiss on the lips, in front of all the press.”
Stewart responds, “On a red carpet…”
Later, Stewart continues, “Well we are good friends; intimate friends. Can I use that word on this show?”
Conan replies to Stewart with mock disgust, “How dare you… You can’t use the word intimate. No, you are old friends, and you initiated this, uh, this, uh, this kiss.”
Stewart responds, “I did, yeah, because it seemed appropriate and that is how we greet one another or say goodbye. But Ian isn’t the only one,” Stewart continues, “I don’t want you to think I am a one-man guy.”
Andy Richter chimes in, asking if male kissing is a tradition perhaps only practiced among knights such as Stewart, McKellen, Paul McCartney, and Sean Connery, which causes Stewart to gnash his teeth.
Stewart then gets a mischievous glint in his eye and turns to Conan and asks with trepidation, “Do you… want to try it out?”
The audience goes wild with the suggestion and O’Brien replies to Stewart, “That’s not what I was going for.”
Stewart replies to the host, “Conan, you were looking at me in a way that I recognize…”
Conan motions towards his face and asks Stewart, “Does this look appetizing to you right now?”
Stewart considers the question for a moment, scrunches up his face, and exclaims, “Totally!”
Conan asks, “You would kiss me on the lips?” in disbelief.
Stewart answers, “Come here,” stands, walks around Conan’s desk, plants and holds a kiss on the comedian’s mouth, to the loud cheers and applause of audience members.
After the show, Stewart posted the following tweet.
