Kathie Lee Gifford Returns To ‘Today’ With Tribute To Late Husband

Kathie Lee Gifford made her return to Today, and it was an emotional moment for all. The co-host thanked the fans for their support in her time of grieving, and paid tribute to her late husband.

Kathie Lee Gifford’s husband, Frank Gifford, had not grown up like most celebrities, born into moderate wealth to get things started. He had been a football player in his early years, a legend in the sport who eventually graduated to being a sportscaster. He also managed to stay married to his wife for 29 years, and had two children.

The former pro football player and successful husband to the Paris-born co-host of Today had been born rather poor. Frank Gifford had worked his way up to where he was on August 9 at the couple’s family home in Connecticut. He died at the age of 84 by natural causes, according to the Los Angeles Times.

When Kathie Lee Gifford returned to Today, she opened up about her husband of 29 years.

“We laughed up to the very end. I just want everybody to know that this is a man who was at complete peace in his life. He might have been the happiest, most content person in the world at this point in his life.

His world got smaller as his God got bigger, and he’d want you to know that, that he died in complete peace. He knew every sin he committed was forgiven.”

Kathie Lee also relayed a story of how they had visited the Holy Land and the place where David fought Goliath in the Bible. She said he’d picked up a stone and it became one of his most treasured possessions.

“Frank would want you to do this today: If you see a stone today, pick it up and ask yourself, ‘What is my stone? What is my gift that I can use to make this world a better place?’

I’m grateful that the Lord took him that way, because the only thing Frank had ever been afraid of in his entire life was being a burden to those he loved.”

Kathie Lee Gifford’s return to Today was also given a light dose of humor, as a box of facial tissues was lowered from overhead. What really broke her down was when 5-year-old Heavenly Joy Jenkins dedicated her singing of the gospel song “This Little Light of Mine” to her.
