Seattle Mariners Rumors: Is Something Wrong With Felix Hernandez?

Seattle Mariners rumors suggest there might be something wrong with Felix Hernandez. These Mariners rumors stem from some recent bad outings that Hernandez has had, with some fans believing that he is hiding an injury from the coaching staff. On Sunday (August 16), the Mariners lost 22-10 to the Boston Red Sox. Many people took to social media to exclaim that the New England Patriots had just beaten the Seattle Seahawks (due to the football score). It also led to a lot of debate about the right arm of the Mariners’ ace starting pitcher.

Hernandez lasted just 2 1/3 innings, giving up 10 runs on 12 hits and a walk. That included giving up three home runs and just 59 pitches for the day. His ERA on the season got bumped up from 3.11 to 3.65 after just one day. It was easily one of the worst starts of his career, with the eight runs in just 1/3 of an inning on June 12 also entering that particular debate. After being a clear Cy Young candidate at the end of May, Hernandez has slipped out of the discussion now. It’s a turn of fortunes that have frustrated both Mariners fans and fantasy baseball owners quite a bit.

One of the reasons these Seattle Mariners rumors have taken root is that Felix Hernandez has been the model of consistency over his 11-year MLB career. That has not been the case since the All-Star break, as Hernandez has a 4.38 ERA and opponents are hitting .338 against him in six second half starts. His velocity is down again this season as well, giving credence to rumors that no front office staff wants to think about. If it did turn out that Fernandez was lost to an arm injury, it could derail future plans of the franchise.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Hisashi Iwakuma just threw a no-hitter for the Mariners, giving fans some additional false hope about overcoming the deficit in the wild card standings. By having Hernandez follow that up with an absolutely horrible performance, it adds fuel to any conspiracy theories out there. The reality, though, is that sometimes pitchers struggle with location and control, even if they are one of the best pitchers in the game. This latest start killed any outside shot that Felix Hernandez had at winning a 2015 MLB Cy Young Award, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that he is injured.

As for Seattle Mariners rumors about this team making the 2015 MLB postseason, getting drubbed 22-10 by the Boston Red Sox might just bring an end to those discussions. It also might put the job of Mariners’ general manager Jack Zduriencik at some serious risk.
