Russell Brand to Host MTV Movie Awards

Russell Brand is set to host next month’s MTV 2012 Movie Awards, a gig the music network says they are “equal parts excited and terrified” concerning.

The awards will take place Sunday, June 3rd at Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, and kick off at 9PM Eastern. In a press release, the MTV’s President Stephen Friedman comments on the selection of Russell Brand to emcee ceremonies:

“With his amazing ability to span the full spectrum of comedy from the most high to lowbrow, Russell’s smart, unpredictable wit uniquely connects him to our audience. His rock-n-roll sensibility and fearlessness give us the perfect partner with whom to take a leap of faith with as we meld the worlds of movies and music together on one very special night.”

In the same release, Brand weakly quips that the event will be “more impressive than The Avengers and you won’t have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out.” Har. It’s not the British comedian’s first ride on the MTV awards show merry-go-round, as Brand hosted the VMAs back in 2008 and 2009.

MTV also blogged about the announcement, confirming Russell Brand as the 2012 MTV Movie Awards host and quoting the comedian’s comments on his enthusiasm about the show:

“Russell Brand is no stranger to MTV awards shows — the British comedian hosted the 2008 and 2009 VMAs. And from the sounds of it, Russell is excited to be back in MTV’s loving arms. About his hosting duties Brand said, ‘MTV Movie Awards incorporates two of my favorite things. Movies and Awards. If somehow group sex could be involved it would be the greatest night of my life.’ We don’t think he’s kidding. At all.”
