UFC: Cain Velasquez Will Face Fabricio Werdum In Rematch

Cain Velasquez is going to have a rematch against Fabricio Werdum, the current UFC heavyweight champion. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Cain fought Fabricio back at UFC 188, which was held back on June 13. Cain ended up losing his UFC heavyweight title to Fabricio. Before stepping in the octagon with Fabricio, Cain fought and defeated some of the top fighters in the heavyweight division, and this included Junior Dos Santos, Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Antonio Silva. However, when Cain fought Fabricio, he ended up submitting in the third round of the bout, handing Cain his first loss since 2012.

Cain will now have the chance to regain the UFC heavyweight title because he is officially getting a rematch, according to Fox Sports. Dana White, President of UFC, confirmed that Fabricio will defend the title against Cain, and it’s going to be a five-round bout. This will be the first time he defends the title, as the first time he fought Cain, it was for the unification of the title that Cain left vacant and the interim title that Fabricio held. As of now, no date has been set for the rematch between the two fighters.

White was speaking with Ariel Helwani on Wednesday, on UFC Tonight, and that is when he confirmed the news that Fabricio would be fighting Cain for the second time.

As Yahoo reported, Fabricio first won the interim title at UFC 180, where he defeated Mark Hunt. Cain was supposed to be the one fighting Fabricio that night, but Cain ended up suffering a knee injury and he had to pull out of the fight. When that happened, Mark stepped up to the plate and took his place. Mark made it to the second round, but ended up losing via TKO.

As for Cain, when he stepped into the octagon with Fabricio at UFC 188, it was the first time in more than a year and a half. As of now, Cain has a record of 13-2. Aside from losing to Fabricio, Cain also suffered a loss at the hands of Junior Dos Santos. As for Fabricio, his record stands at 20-5-1.

Before White announced that Cain would be facing Fabricio in a rematch, it was thought that Stipe Miocic or Andrei Arlovski would be the one to have a shot at the heavyweight title. However, they both now have different opponents. Stipe is going to be taking on Ben Rothwell in Dublin at UFC Fight Night 76, while Andrei will be facing Frank Mir at UFC 191.
