Cher Bashes Mitt Romney on Twitter, Then Deletes Tweets

Cher has always been opinionated, and not terribly shy about it either. She had a few incendiary things to say aimed at presidential hopeful Mitt Romney via her Twitter on Tuesday, and her criticism isn’t too surprising. The fact that she deleted those nasty-grams shortly after posting them? Well, that is a little surprising.

So what inspired this postmortem restraint on the part of the legendary pop star? According to E!, it could be the response she got. One of her Tweets from this morning (since deleted) said, “If ROMNEY gets elected I don’t know if I can breathe same air as Him & his Right Wing Racist Homophobic Women Hating Tea Bagger Masters.”

She got a multitude of responses all across the spectrum, some just downright mean. One response to her original post caused her to retort, “Nice Mouth ! U learn that at Church, Gun Show,or how to press your Klan costume Klass?” Another user called her an “atten.whore,” causing Cher to fire back with, “Actually I’m Not & if u Dislike Me SO.. Get Off My Site it Cant B Fun 4 U !”

Another Tweet, now deleted, said “TOO HARSH? That’s me Holding BACK! They care nothing about the POOR The OLD The SICK The HUNGRY CHILDREN & People striving 4 a Better LIFE ! –” though with all the selective self-publishing, it’s hard to tell who-or-what it was directed at.

It wasn’t just criticism though – a lot of Cher’s fans supported her via Twitter too, apologizing on behalf of less-tactful followers. “Cher u need to DELETE, DELETE, DELETE. I dont believe how rude people can be!” said one user. Another said, “you being a hell of a talented person, i admire your tenacity and honesty, its refreshing!” It seemed to cheer her up, too. This afternoon, Cher posted ”Hi Lovelies!hope U R having GREAT Day or Nite!” adding, “Sorry I Let The Dogs Out,But I Should Have Remembered 1must watch what They Say These Days!”

Ah, there’s the reason.

When asked if some of the comments upset her, she replied, “No Sweetheart Just ‘STRONG ENOUGH’!!”

Though the original Tweets were deleted, the resulting melee is still visible on Cher’s Twitter.

Cher – I with you all the way if Mitt Romney gets to be President. HE WILL NOT BE MY PRESIDENT. I think he is very rude and into himself, Plus when he was running the Olympic in SLC many of us volunteering. Meet Romney he couldn't get any of us the time of day and RUDE, RUDE.

cher, who could possibly give a crap what you think or any of your celeb friends either for that matter. your buddy Baldwin promised to leave the USA if Bush got elected, remember that? Bush did and Baldwin didn't. you and your rich movie star buddies have no idea what living a "real" life even consists of so all of you come up with all of these freebie programs for those who don't/can't work and guess where all that money comes from? us the working middle class who, by the way, you are killing and weeding out slowly but surely with all of the freebie programs you come up with and by you I mean democrats. but because you are a pretty face on tv and in movies people seem to believe you have all the answers. and we probably will end up with 4 more years of Obama because of all the people out there looking for s omething for nothing. watch the documentary Inside job. explains why our economy is what it is today. is Romney perfect? probably not. will he do everything right? probablly not. but we won't survive 4 more years of Obama, that you can count on. well you might, the rich might, but not those of us who work for a living.

people are bashing Romney because he's rich. so what. show me one politician who is NOT rich. at least Romney wouldn't be ashamed to show his birth certificate if asked for it I betcha! so if your buddy Obama is a citizen of the US of A why is it he refuses to show his birth certificate? mabye he isn't? you can bet your plastic surgeried bootie that if HE wanted YOURS you had better pony up or your can would be in the can oh but wait – he's ABOVE the law. so perhaps if Romney DOES get elected you could take your buddy Balwin and you could BOTH move out of the country since YOU wouldn't be able to breathe the air here any longer and take as many of your celeb buddies as you can with you, would you? thanks and have a GREAT 4th celetrating your independence.

and really? who cares what kind of underwear Romney wears. i bet he has never even thought about what kind of underwear you wear, if you wear any. i'm sure you make more money in one movie or off one album that i will ever see in my lifetime but you know what? I don't feel like you owe me anything. what's your is yours and what's mine is mine. i'm perfectly content so why is it up to me now to give all these people out there an entitlement? oh yeah, because your Obama buddy thinks everything should have the same thing. no matter what they do or do not do. do i hear communism, socialism????? well we are entering the stages of a third world country. we will have the extremely rich and the extremely poor but that is how the govenrment wants it. easier to control people who depend on the government for everything, right? but again, it won't effect you and those you hang with. you will be in the extremely rich group – enjoy!
