International ‘Dota 2’ Tournament $6M Cash Prize Won By Evil Geniuses
The biggest Dota 2 International eSports event in history has finally come to an end, with the Evil Geniuses Dota team going home with more than $6 million dollars in prizes, Gamer Headlines report.

North American Dota team Evil Geniuses is the victor of this year’s Dota 2 International Championship, winning 3-1 in a Best of Five matchup against Chinese team CDEC. Dota team Evil Geniuses went home with a cash prize of $6,630,109 to split among the five members of the team, while the Dota championship runner-up takes home a $2,854,630 cash prize.
Only four maps out of five were played during the Dota 2 grand finals since CDEC was only able to snatch one win, Game 3, from Evil Geniuses in the Dota 2 championships. However, it is interesting to note that China’s CDEC team, from the start, was the talk of the town as the wildcard Dota team since their performance all through out Dota 2 International 2015 was spectacular, winning all of their matches towards the championship without a single defeat. CDEC was even able to defeat Evil Geniuses 2-0 in a match prior to the Dota 2 International 2015 grand finals. However, Evil Geniuses were able to outshine the Dota 2 International 2015 favorite, with UNiVeRsE’s Clockwerk and Fear’s Gyrocopter leading the team to victory. The members of the Dota 2 International victor Evil Geniuses goes by the names of ppd, Suma1L, UNiVeRsE, Fear, and Aui_2000.
Overall, Evil Geniuses’ victory was well deserved, and at the end of the exhausting match, the reigning Dota 2 International team says in a post-show interview that they plan to spend a portion of their $6 million earnings to “go outside and get rid of this pasty monitor tan.”
The Dota 2 International 2015 is an eSports Dota 2 event sponsored by Dota developer Valve Corporation, with a reported total prize pool of over $18 million, the biggest prize pool ever collected for the Dota 2 International event since it launched in 2011. A portion of the prize pool is put together by 25 percent of the proceeds from Dota 2 purchases, which says a lot about the popularity of Dota 2 exponentially increasing over the years.
The Dota 2 International 2015 was held from August 3 to 8, with a starting pool of 18 teams. The teams were pitted against each other throughout the competition until two of the teams are left to compete for the Dota 2 grand finals. One hundred seventy-six Dota 2 matches later, Evil Geniuses were able to arrive at the top of the Dota 2 championship with the last game versus CDEC running for almost one hour.
