Toronto Blue Jays Rumors: David Price Leads Blue Jays To Top Of Wild Card Standings

Toronto Blue Jays rumors have only bid good since David Price came to town. The Blue Jays now lead the MLB wild card standings thanks to Price shutting out the New York Yankees 6-0 on Saturday (August 8). Price went seven innings, allowing just three hits on the way to his 11th win of the season. He also dropped his ERA to just 2.35, which could be good enough to get him into another Cy Young race. He may be more concerned with the wild card race at this moment.

Thanks to the second win in two nights against the Yankees, the Blue Jays have now won seven-straight games and nine of the last 10. This has pushed the Blue Jays past the Los Angeles Angels and into first place in the updated wild card standings. The 60-52 Blue Jays are half a game ahead of the 58-51 Angels and two games ahead of the 56-53 Baltimore Orioles. The Texas Rangers (55-54), Minnesota Twins (55-55), Tampa Bay Rays (55-56), and Detroit Tigers (54-56) are all still hanging around as well.

There aren’t many Toronto Blue Jays rumors about the team acquiring players now, especially with the acquisition run the front office made before the All-Star break. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the Blue Jays acquired All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki from the Colorado Rockies. This followed an offseason where the team traded for All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson (from the Oakland Athletics). Tulowitzki is hitting .296 as the leadoff hitter for Toronto, while Donaldson has a .295 batting average in the No. 2 hole.

It is clear to most of Major League Baseball that the Blue Jays have an extremely dangerous batting order. The team is putting up a lot of runs, which makes the job of every pitcher on the staff a bit easier. Still, David Price has made everything look easy for him since coming over in a trade with the Detroit Tigers. In his first two starts with the Blue Jays, Price has a 0.60 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP, and a 2-0 record. Opponents are hitting just .118 against him and that includes 18 strikeouts over 15 innings of work.

While there could be additional Toronto Blue Jays rumors about the front office looking to improve the bullpen, the team is currently playing well enough to compete with all the top teams in the American League. Now it is just a question of holding down the lead in the MLB wild card standings or catching up to the New York Yankees for an American League East title.
