‘Crimson Peak’ Breeds Romance Amidst Guillermo Del Toro’s Evil Ghosts [Video]

Crimson Peak is Guillermo Del Toro’s latest project, a gothic horror story reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” and Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting, and, while Del Toro seems to create a masterpiece with the isolation in Crimson Peak, the house hardly stands alone. Aside from from the horrors held within the walls at Crimson Peak, the film also boasts a talented cast: Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, and Jim Beaver.

“When her heart is stolen by a seductive stranger, a young woman is swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay: a place filled with secrets that will haunt her forever. Between desire and darkness, between mystery and madness, lies the truth behind Crimson Peak.”

Jessica Chastain, one half of that enraptured couple upon which the plot of Crimson Peak hinges, joked that the romance between the Sons of Anarchy star and herself might not be limited to the silver screen.

“Are you telling me I’m going to fall in love with Charlie Hunnam on set,” Jessica asked, as filming on Crimson Peak was set to begin.

As it turned out, there was no off screen romance to dream about between the two Crimson Peak stars, but that doesn’t make the trailer any less enticing with its promises of gothic love caught up in the midst of a whirlwind of horrific images as only Del Toro can deliver.

“I did not fall in love with Charlie, press out!” Chastain said with a big smile at Comic-Con 2015. “I do love him, but I’m not in love with him.”

While the expected romance did not bloom, Jessica reveals that they did become bonded in a unique friendship on the set of Crimson Peak and Chastain reveals that Hunnam made his Crimson Peak co-star’s birthday a day worth remembering.

“He’s so nice,” the Crimson Peak actress said. “He bought me this incredible thoughtful birthday present, this amazing artist and this book of photographs. He’s just this normal down-to-earth [guy]. So cool.”

Ms. Chastain also commented on her new New York City home, which has been rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of the building’s architect and an opera singer.

“I have yet to feel anything,” Crimson Peak‘s Chastain said. “If there [are] ghosts, let’s hang out.”

Crimson Peak is scheduled for an October 16 theatrical release.
