Company of Heroes 2 Coming To PC Early Next Year

This morning, THQ announced that Company of Heroes 2, the sequel to its popular 2006 RTS set in World War 2, is set to make its way to a PC near you early next year.

Rather than covering the same ground tread in the original game, namely the Western Front, Company of Heroes 2 will take place in the Eastern Front, and tasks players with commanding the Red Army to defend Soviet soil from the ongoing full-scale invasion from Germany.

Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology,” said Relic producer Greg Wilson. “While retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success.”

Company of Heroes 2 will run on Relic’s proprietary Essence 3.0 Engine, which the company says will allow for enhanced levels of destruction and “increased graphical fidelity.”

Danny Bilson, executive vice president at Core Games, suggested in the press release that Company of Heroes 2 could be getting quite a bit of downloadable content after its release in early 2013.

“We are excited to announce a sequel to one of THQ’s best loved properties,” Bilson said. “Company of Heroes 2 will deliver an amazing strategy experience along with a strong post-launch digital content plan that enhances and expands the product’s lifecycle.”
