Angelina Jolie’s ‘Very Heavy’ New Film First In 10 Years With Brad: Jolie Directed Pitt To Show ‘Aggression’ [Video]

Angelina Jolie had a “very heavy” experience in taking on the roles of director, writer, and actress for her new film with husband Brad Pitt. In 2005, Jolie and Pitt showed their flirty chemistry in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but that upbeat romance is the opposite of how they felt for their new film By The Sea, reported Vanity Fair.

In the movie authored by Angelina, Jolie reflects what she’s learned about the dark side of marriage after being with Brad for 10 years. The film tells the tale of a couple clashing in their own marriage and their encounter with newlyweds who also are on vacation in France.

Angelina revealed what it was like to direct Brad and herself in the scenes highlighting the tension between the fictional characters. Jolie admitted that the “very heavy” aspect came from the fact that she pushed Pitt to show what he actually felt in real life about Angelina when he was angry.

And Jolie also noted that the crew sometimes felt embarrassed by the discord.

“I’d be directing myself and him in a scene where we’re having a fight, and I’d be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you’re frustrated with each other—it was very heavy,” said Angelina. “We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don’t know where to stand or where to look.”

But does By The Sea reflect problems in Angelina’s relationship with Brad? Jolie and Pitt portray what seems like true emotional pain in the movie, reported Entertainment Tonight.

Acting together after a decade of working on separate films, Pitt is an American writer, Roland, and Jolie is Vanessa. As Roland’s wife, Jolie’s character showcases the crisis that can occur when a marriage becomes embroiled in discord.

Angelina says that now the film is completed, Jolie doesn’t plan to work on such a very heavy film again, reported the DGA.

“We’re proud of ourselves for being brave enough to try it,” said Angelina of how she and Brad feel about the completed film. “I think By the Sea was the hardest film for me because it wasn’t [issue-driven]. It’s something I probably won’t do very much of.”

As the Inquisitr reported, Jolie and Pitt have been praised for their open discussion of how their daughter Shiloh wants to be called John.
