VIDEO: Jamie Foxx on American Idol — Was He Lip-Syncing?

Jamie Foxx On American IdolSinger/actor/comedian Jamie Foxx took the stage on the “American Idol” results show Wednesday night. Foxx performed his current hit single, “Blame It” — although the heavily effected vocals have raised some questions of whether he was lip-syncing.

Jamie Foxx served as the week’s guest mentor on “American Idol,” drawing praise from even Simon Cowell himself, who thanked Foxx for bringing out the best in the contestants. The reviews, however, are less unanimous for Foxx’s own performance on Wednesday. In addition to the vocal processing, viewers have noted how the sound of the lead vocals remains constant even when Foxx clearly has the microphone away from his mouth and isn’t singing.

Whether or not he was lip synching, it sucked! This is a top song in America? Really?

  2. Get a life already, more important issues to care about. It was so obvious he was singing to a track. He couldn't do it w/o a track considering the voice synthesizer and T-Pain's part.

  3. Um, I'm pretty certain the American Idol contestants have been lip-syncing on the group performances at the results shows this year too.

  5. regardless if he was lip-syncing or lot he looked great and its a great party song, it may not have been his best performance ever but i still enjoyed it and we all know what a beautiful voice he has otherwise so its not like he has to prove he can sing.

I do realize that T-Pain had a feature (T Pain can actually sing live.. really!), but Jamie Foxx never actually started singing. He just shouted to the backtrack, which happened to be extremely loud for a “live” performance. So, Jamie verbally assaults teenage girls, lip syncs and performers badly, then shamelessly promotes his own cliched movie. And, sorry guys, but the idol contestants only lip sync at the choruses, the solos are live, and that is a major step up compared to Jamie Foxx's performance last night. No wonder he almost never performs live….

Absolutely not. He's using whats called a vocorder. I've been in the music biz for over a decade. They were popular way back and have found there way to the front again. Just listen to Kayne West's new album. It takes your voice and replays it doubled and with varying octaves. There is a small amount of delay due to the processing witch makes it seem like the voice doesn't match the lips. But just listen when he stops singing so does the effect proving he's not lip syncing. My band tried using it a long time ago when recording our album. It sounded bad ass on tape but was very hard to recreate when playing live. It makes you sound real garbled. Remember if it doesn't sound like the album then it's for real. When you go see a band and it sounds like you pushed play on your ipod thats cause they did.

P.s. Almost all contemporary music uses backing tracks. But no one seems to care if there is a DJ on stage who presses play instead of a sound tech. DJ or sound tech. It's still a backing track!

First of all, he apologized for the Cyrus thing. Second, he's a comedian. Thirdly, anyone in the tv, movie and singing business or just anyone in the world is subject to criticism. I verbally abuse teenagers everyday (behind their backs…lol) so what? Aren't we entitled to our opinions. You cannot expect everyone in the whole world to like you or to say good things about you. Move on…Jamie Foxx is talented. Stop hatin'!

He was not lip-synching. It was live. His backing vocals were singing, which sucked! I lost respect for Jamie after that!

  10. I watched veery closely the VT, and the problem is not the pre-recorded backing track or the vocorder used. My issue is that one of the three backing vocals were singing the main track along with Jamie, and that's cheating for me.

  11. What leather jacket is he wearing? ITS HOT AND SEXY AND I WANT IT. Does anyone know.
