Australia holds the trophy in The Ashes, one of global sports’ most intense rivalries, after humiliating England with a 5-0 whitewash in Australia that wrapped up in January of 2014. This Ashes series has been a see-saw affair through the first three matches. England scored a surprising and definitive 169-run win in the First Test at Cardiff, but when the series moved to Lord’s in London for the Second Test, Australia came out with guns blazing, blowing their hosts away by a staggering 405 runs with a day to spare.
But in the Third Test, at Edgbaston in Birmingham, England bowlers ruled the day, leading their side to a sparkling three-day, eight-wicket victory and restricting Australia’s fearsome batting attack to 136 and 265.
But the win was also a costly one for England as they lost the 33-year-old talisman of their bowling attack — and England’s all-time leading Test wicket taker with 413 — James Anderson, who was forced to withdraw mid-match with a muscle strain in his side.
Anderson will miss the Fourth Test, but hopes to be back on the pitch for the final match of the 2015 Ashes at Kia Oval in London, starting on August 20.
