$25 Million Mega Millions Ticket Sold In Missouri

A $25 million Mega Millions ticket was sold in Missouri for the July 31 drawing.

According to the Missouri Lottery, one lucky person is holding the winning ticket, which was sold in the southwest corner of the state at a convenience store in Noel.

This marks the first time that a Mega Millions jackpot ticket has been sold in Missouri, with the winning numbers of 28, 32, 33, 40, 46, and the Mega Ball number, 10.

Mary Scheve Reardon, the Missouri Lottery director, is urging whoever has the ticket to sign the back of it and place it in a safe place until they can cash it out at the Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City. They can also call the headquarters to make arrangements to turn in the ticket. The ticket holder has 180 days to claim the prize — in this case, until January 27, 2016, before it becomes default.

Reardon also suggested that the winner seek out legal or financial advice before making the trip, according to KPLR-11 St. Louis. They can choose to accept a one-time lump-sum payment or they can receive 30 annuity payments over 29 years.

Since the Mega Millions came to Missouri in January, 2010, 31 players have won $250,000 in prizes, with another six Missourians winning the $1 million prize.

Missouri must be the place to be if you are wanting to play the lottery. Just last week, two longtime employees of the city of St. Louis were announced as the winners of the $70 million Powerball jackpot.

Tom Rea, a building maintenance supervisor for the city’s department of corrections and Catherine Ruggeri-Rea, Tom’s wife and the city’s courts administrator, were the lucky pair that became instant millionaires, according to the St. Lois Post-Dispatch.

Tom, 62, has worked for the city for over 40 years, while Catherine has served as the city’s courts administrator for nearly 10 years. Tom purchased the ticket at a St. Louis Hills gas station on July 4, and later returned to the same gas station to check his ticket, where the cashier informed him that he had matched all the numbers and won the jackpot. In obvious shock, Tom told the cashier to check again.

“You won, sir, you won the big money,” he recalls the cashier telling him.

The $70 million jackpot is the ninth-largest jackpot to ever be won in Missouri. The last time someone won the Powerball jackpot in Missouri was on November 8, 2014.
