Kermit and Miss Piggy Have Called It Quits! Does Gonzo Finally Have A Chance? [Video]
On Tuesday, it was announced that famed Muppets Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are no longer a couple. The pair’s turbulent (and often violent) relationship lasted over 30 years. ABC pop culture show The Skinny reported that Kermit “spilled the beans” about the breakup first. Later, he and Miss Piggy released a joint statement on social media sites Twitter and Facebook.
“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration, and considerable squabbling, Kermit the Frog and moi have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship.
[Our] personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter…Unless we get the right offer. Thank you for your understanding.”
The two will put aside personal differences to work together on their upcoming ABC comedy series The Muppets. In fact, the timing of the breakup had some believing that the entire thing was a publicity stunt. Actor Alan Cumming suggested as much. However, Miss Piggy soon replied; she emphasized that the split with Kermit was not a PR move.

If you thought Kermit is no longer interested in puppet pigs, well things couldn’t be less true. According to the Washington Post, Kermit confirmed via Twitter that he’s dating a new pig named Denise. As for Miss Piggy, while there’s no news of a new beau yet, there’s one Muppet everyone’s wondering about.
It’s no secret that throughout the years, Gonzo has had a long-time crush on Miss Piggy. Miss Piggy was anything but enamored with Gonzo, but with Kermit possibly moving on this might be his big chance after all. Of course, he’ll have to “compete” with the guys who’ve made their interests known to Miss Piggy now that’s she’s a free, er, pig.

One thing must be said for Kermit, Miss Piggy, and this ghastly announcement: Their timing couldn’t be more perfect. The past couple of weeks has seen quite a few shocking breakups.
The same day this announcement came, the public learned that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossendale are divorcing. Meanwhile, former One Direction pop singer Zayn Malik decided to break off his engagement to Little Mix member Perrie Edwards. Divorce rumors have also picked up for Will Smith and Jada Pinkett.
Perhaps the news of Kermit and Miss Piggy splitting is a bit more upsetting because they are such an iconic duo. At least, they were.
