Cheetahs Brutally Maul Scottish Woman On Her 60th Birthday Dream Vacation

was mauled by cheetahs in a game preserve in South Africa while she and her husband Archie were on their dream vacation, celebrating D’Mello’s 60th birthday.

The two were allowed to get up close an personal with two brother cheetahs, Monty and Mark, at Port Elizabeth’s Kragga Kamma Game Park. Archie, the victim’s husband, was quoted by Y! News having said:

“They seemed to be pretty docile. They said they were hand reared from cubs and were extremely tame and one could you know stroke them and not only that lay on them and they’ll do nothing to you.”

The Scottish woman was attacked after one of the Cheetahs grabbed an 8-year-old girl by her leg and the woman attempted to intervene. After the young girl was able to escape and run to safety, D’Mello indicated that both of the cheetahs then took the opportunity to savagely attack her. The attack lasted less than three minutes.

While the attack ensued, Violet decided to play dead in self-defense as she was quoted by the Port Elizabeth Herald having said:

“Something inside me just said, ‘Don’t move. Don’t move at all. Don’t react, just play dead.”

D’Mello lost a considerable amount of blood in the attack, however, she walked away without any life-threatening wounds. Doctors stitched her scalp and thighs, her husband indicated.

Mike Cantor, the park’s manager, indicated that they had not previously experienced any issues with their beloved cheetah brothers. He was quoted having said:

“It’s not something we’ve ever really experienced. It’s obviously very unfortunate, and we’re looking into what may have startled or riled up the cheetahs. The petting facility is closed to the public while the park investigates the attack.”
